The Community Cottage Estate
Welcome! You’re considering staying at our 1920’s Tudor Estate just South of beautiful downtown Dallas. Those that love staying with us are traveling medical professionals (and students), short term interns, busy professionals, Fair grounds participants, and avid vagabonders; of course if you don’t fit one of those categories, you are still welcome. Matt (my soon to be husband and I) purchased this historical cottage to be used for bringing people together; we love having friends and family over for dinner at one of our many community tables. We wanted to create spaces where people could come, chill, spend a little bit of time slowing down and relaxing. That’s why we created the coffee bar, outdoor living space, and front patio rocker. Matt & I are also avid travelers - having both backpacked, traversed, and explored a number of countries and states - asking locals for advice as well as accommodation and loving the relationships that have formed out of that. We may not make your acquaintance depending on your stay length, but we would love to give you a unique and fun place to stay; Most people love our original hardwood floors, baseboard and crown molding, mostly lead glass windows, and historic old world charm in every room. The comfort and quality of your stay should be superb or above average and yet, some of our features are old school because of how charming they are. You will find several listings for our property’s bedrooms as we have a couple private bedroom suites with shared bathrooms available. If you plan to come with more than 2 or 3 in your party, we will be happy to reserve a second, third, or fourth room for your other travelers. Simply choose the number of people you would like to have come and will see what our availability looks like on your dates. When you choose to stay here, you are supporting a number of projects and people that we care about. 1) In our businesses, we have a number of full time employees and their salaries and bonuses are paid for partially by Airbnb revenues; 2) We are also passionate about teaching entrepreneurship and mindset to inner city kids - you fund some of that project; 3) We support a number of Compassion International children worldwide (see the picture of our Giving Wall) with our revenue 4) We invite students and friends and others that are in slim economic parts of their life to enjoy a Sunday lunch with us. If you are in town for a Sunday, we would love to have you join us to eat and fellowship. 5) I, Chelsea, am getting a degree in Biblical Counseling - specifically focusing in Marriage Counseling. We pay for tuition through our revenues. We are also huge advocates of education and entrepreneurship, so if you have those backgrounds, you might enjoy checking out our book collections in each room as well as hanging out in our mini-incubator - the War Room. Room Names and Their Significance: Gladwell: Our large corner bedroom has a shared full bath right next door to it. It has a full bed and twin futon in the room as well as a desk. The humongous windows in this room make it the brightest room in the home, but the curtains shut allow some darkness as well! This room was named after a highly respected author in our home, Malcolm Gladwell. Gottman: This room, also with great lighting, has 2 twin beds and a desk. Many guests enjoy the private half bath in this room (the shower is down the hall); If you are a counseling nerd, you may have heard of John Gottman, the foremost researcher and published author of the Sound Marital House and other counseling material to create the best marriages. We are also advocates of great communication and problem resolution in marriage. We recommend checking out his work if you are staying here. Ziglar: The largest of our bedrooms, the Ziglar room has one full bed and a large desk and sitting area in our upstairs. Huge windows on two sides (as a corner bedroom). The Ziglar room is named after one of our favorite mentors from a distance, the late Zig Ziglar, who lived much of his life in the Dallas area, has inspired more than any other motivational speaker to achieve their best life through positive thinking and going after their goals.
