The space

Burrells Cottage is a spacious 3 bedroomed semi-detached cottage in the hamlet of Burrells, which is close to the town of Appleby-in-Westmorland. The house has been recently refurbished to a provide comfortable accommodation, providing a mix of traditional and modern living spaces. The hosts occupy the house next-door, so you can be sure your neighbours will be respectful of your comfort during your stay.

The house is a Grade II listed farmhouse, which dates back to the 18th Century, and has its own gardens, with a furnished decked area in the upper garden with gas barbecue, ideal for sitting out and enjoying the cottage’s countryside and farmland surroundings. To the front of the house there is a lawn and parking for up to three cars.

The downstairs of the cottage comprises a farmhouse style kitchen outfitted with modern appliances, electric oven/inset cooker top and a breakfast bar. This room can also be accessed directly from the rear of the house, and has plenty of space for muddy boots!

Also adjoining the kitchen is a snug living room with large leather sofas, an open fire (with coal and logs provided), flatscreen TV and large library of DVDs. The garden room provides a dining area which is bright and airy during the day, and cosy during the evening with underfloor heating, blinds and warm lighting. This space is also ideal for playing board games, or relaxing in the wingback chairs with the wall-mounted smart TV. The garden room leads out onto a patio area, with access to both the front of the cottage, and the steps leading up to the rear garden. In addition, there is a ground floor bathroom with spa bath, separate shower, toilet and hand basin.

First impressions: It's one of those rare moments when the house looks much better than the photos. The hosts were very friendly and surprisingly relaxed given we were 6 adults and 3 young energetic toddlers. Location: Getting there is an absolute pleasure. Once you're off the motorway it all just like a fairytale. Gorgeous landscapes, loose animals grazing along the road and perfect roads to drive on. The house itself is in a tiny village surrounded by farms and beautiful scenery. It's very close to a very nice small town where you can find supermarkets and all the essentials. There are plenty of things to see within a 5 mile radius including a castle and a waterfall. The house: Within 10 minutes after we checked in, it already felt as if we lived there our whole life. The hosts have extraordinary attention to details and great taste. You would find everything you needed in a house from high chairs, travel cot, ironing board to the milk in the fridge. It is a perfect mixture between rustic decor and modern technology. Everything was spotless clean and we are very picky when it comes to this. The rooms are warm and quiet, very comfy and welcoming. The downstairs area is large and very well organised. The hosts: Warm and welcoming but not intrusive. They are only there if you want or need them. Overall it was a fantastic experience and we are currently planning our return.

A beautiful cottage, I only wish we could have stayed longer. The hosts were so helpful and friendly and the little 'extras' really were a welcome addition (whiskey, wine, fudge, fruit, milk, jam), very convenient for Ullswater and surrounding lakes. We hope to come back again one day

The cottage was really well maintained inside and had everything you could need. There was plenty of room and far more space than we were anticipating. Located in a small hamlet it was very quiet and just a 5 min drive into Appleby. Our trip was so we could spend time in the Lake District without being situated directly in them, it took us just under an hour by car to reach Lake Windermere. June has provided an introduction guide once you arrive and plenty of leaflets for activities should you be short of ideas. This was our first AirBnb experience and one that has left us with memories forever. Certainly if we were looking for something similar in the future we wouldn't hesitate to see if June's place was available.

Fantastic place to stay. What a great cottage. Beautifully decorated and fully equipped with everything we needed for out little family. Beds were so comfortable, lovely showers and kitchen well kitted out. Great garden and outdoor area. Lounge was great with fire and comfortable sofas to collapse on and watch a film. In a very quiet area but close to village centre and easy reach of the Lakes. Would recommend this cottage to anyone. Hosts were very attentive and helped us out when we needed them. Hope to stay again, thank you

A beautiful spacious cottage. Well equipped and lovely welcoming touches that we appreciated like truffles, whisky, wine and fruit. Definitely the best Airbnb cottage I have stayed in.
