The Green Meadows River Cabin, on the rushing South Fork of the New River, is a perfect year-round escape. The cabin is convenient to Boone, West Jefferson, and all the High Country offers, but with access to the river, hatchery-supported trout fishing, views of rolling hills dotted with Christmas trees, a huge yard to play in, a fire pit, a game room, WiFi, smart TVs with DirecTV, soaring vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, and beautiful cabin decor, you may not want to leave the property.

The space

My wife and I live 15 minutes away in Boone. We plan to make the river cabin our retirement home once the kids are grown and gone. (I'm ready to go now, but the kids don't want to change schools.) In the meantime, it's yours to enjoy and we're close by to take care of any needs that arise during your stay.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire house as well as the garage, which is full of river toys and games. Railroad Grade Road, a popular biking and jogging location due to its level, winding route along the river, is just across the bridge.

Interaction with guests

We have a door with an access code, allowing for flexible check in. We can greet you upon request.

Other things to note

The river access is located in the green space of the adjacent lot, just a few steps from the fire pit. If you're looking to float the river, you can put in right at the house or drive up to Todd Island, put in there, and then get out at the house.

Awesome place very clean well maintained. Great location not to far away from town but still had that quiet and secluded feeling. I Hope to use it again in the future and I would definitely recommend it to my friends.

This home was exactly as described by host. It was exceptionally clean and very well maintained. Very cozy home with great amenities and no issues at all. The location was awesome and so beautiful. It was a very quiet area with easy access. Would highly recommend to adults only or adults with children.

Awesome place for family vacation. Highly recommend for a trip to the mountains. Would be awesome in summer or spring when you could use the kayak and other amenities without freezing.

Response from David:
Thanks so much for your review, Makayla. You are definitely brave if you got in a 'yak in November. :-) People do fish all through the winter in hip waders, but kayaking is probably best left for May-October. You'll have to come back then!

My husband and I and another couple just spent two wonderful, relaxing days at David's place. It was clean, had everything we needed, great living space, great kitchen set up, with plenty of coffee cups, which we mostly used. There were bikes and kayaks in the garage, of which we used neither, but hope to go back in the summertime, and take advantage. Instead, we chose to take a walk along the river, which was absolutely beautiful. We also took a short drive to the parkway, and walked in to Cascade Falls. We had dinner at Boondocks in the evening, where the food was great. We enjoyed having our lunch on the nice porch in the rocking chairs. I could have sat there all afternoon, but there was too much else to do, and not enough time. We also ate at the Daniel Boone Inn in Boone on the other evening. We played games in the evenings at the kitchen table. David was quick to respond with any message sent to him. He checked to make sure we had found the place, and had gotten in with no problem. It was a fun time, and the perfect place to stay with dear friends.

We had the most wonderful vacation in Todd, NC at Green Meadows. David's home has everything you need plus many extras. We did not even venture into Boone except for dinner one of four nights. The kayaks in the garage, along with directions from David, provided all we needed for adventure every afternoon. We also used the bikes provided to ride the railroad grade road daily. The hot tub was a great way to wind down after our outdoor activities. The fire pit by the river provided an ideal setting for roasting marshmallows and watching the full harvest moon. Our kids played thousands of rounds of ping pong in the garage. The kitchen was adequately furnished to allow us to prepare most meals at home so we could really relax, though we did venture to Boone for dinner once. The internet and TV allowed us to watch NCSU defeat Louisville seamlessly. Neighbors were friendly. David is incredibly responsive. We will be back.
