Dear Airbnb community. I have rented rooms and been a host for more than 20 years. It is a very rare thing for me to be this disenfranchised and discouraged over behavior unbecoming of a guest. Caleb smoked pot, had an unauthorized guest, and did not reply to a text inquiry about his departure time for 2 1/2 hours - yes, I did offer that he could take his time at check out and, in the past, this was always accepted with gratitude and with a full respect of leaving in a timely manner. When I arrived at 6:30 pm on his departure day, his things were not packed, his black light was on and a tapestry hung across the space as though he had moved into a dorm room. He was high. I will say again, he had been smoking pot and the entire studio reeked of it. Yes, I was angry and quite upset by this lack of common civility and respect. Overreaction? I think not. False? No. This forum proves itself worthy of ones true character and I will leave the rest to those with whom I have connected and in some cases, made friends. I would caution any host to accept a request from Caleb.
