The Black Forest Lodge is situated in Igelsberg in the middle of the Black Forest and it offers various possibilites to nature.

Igelsberg is a community with roughly 250 inhabitants, located around 10 km north of Freudenstadt. The place is idylically situated on a sunny hill, surrounded by fields, meadows and woods.

Activities: Hiking, Walking, Running, Swimming, Biking, Mountain biking, Cross-country Skiing, Relaxing, Enjoying the nature and the woods

The space

The accomodations in a typical Black Forest House stand out through very lovely, brightly and modernly decorated rooms, where some special, modern features can be spotted. At the same time, the nostalgic charme of the house and its history is always kept.

Guest access

The house has common rooms (breaktfast rooms with a kitchenette) as well as a big garden with a green lawn. At breakfast, a selection of regional products of high quality is served.

Other things to note

In the morning, a rich breakfast buffet is offered (optional). The offer includes a selection of mostly regional products of high quality, also tailored to the needs of active people. At certain days of the week, varying "specials" are served (e.g. organic spelt bread from the nearby Bohnet-Hof, homemade cakes, eggs etc.). The breakfast buffet costs 8 € per person.

There's no restaurant in Igelsberg. But there are various restaurants in the neighbouring places (4-10km away), you will find everything from country inns to pizzerias and international cuisine. Alternatively, you can prepare yourself a warm meal in the kitchenette. If you don't want to get in the car any more to have dinner, you can also get some food delivered.

On certain evenings, there's the possibility to participate in a common dinner in the lodge. The owner will cook a (vegetarian) meal herself which will be eaten together (in the style of many hostels on the Camino de Santiago, where this is common). You can sign up for such a dinner until noon of the same day. We will satisfy special wishes or requests within our possibilities and capacities.

Dogs are allowed at a surcharge of 7 Euro per night.

Based on the stay of myself and my wife, I fully and unreservedly recommend the Black Forest Lodge to any travellers and adventurers exploring the Black Forest. Sarah is an incredibly gracious and devoted host who personally made sure our stay was as comfortable as it can be. Igolsberg and nearby Freudenstadt are incredible fun and beautiful areas of Germany to be around, offering a great many opportunities for hiking, swimming, biking, and other sportsy activities. The town is somewhat hard to get to without a car, but being a bit isolated could also be exactly what people are looking for! Amenities in the Lodge are very clean, new, and complete. The entire Lodge is newly renovated, and public spaces are created with a lot of love and attention to detail to accomodate travelers, particularly adults. There are shared bathrooms and private sinks (though private bathrooms in specific apartments are also available through their website), very comfortable beds in cozily decorated apartments. One important note is that 10PM (22:00) is quiet-time in the Lodge, which is very important as sound carries very strongly inside the house. This policy appears to be very strictly adhered to, which was great for us. Sarah serves a lovely German-style breakfast for 7 Euro's a person per day, and guests receive tiny chocolate bars on their pillowcases upon arrival. Check-in was worry-free and fast, and Sarah was highly responsive to messages. Overall, the Lodge comes strongly recommended by me to all adventurous travelers. A truly heartfelt experience that feels like home.

We stayed for one night at the Black Forest Lodge. The beds were the best we had in our holiday, and after a day of driving, we really enjoyed the quietness and tranquility of the Black Forest. The place was clean and neat en Sarah provided us with everything we needed. We also loved the breakfast.

Sarah User ProfileSarah is a superhost.

I am Sarah, grew up in the South of Germany, but had the chance to live in various nice places in different countries during the last years. After my studies in economics, I have been working in the financial service sector for 3.5 years. In a crisis of purpose, I quit my job to dedicate myself to other activities.

After a 2-month long pilgrimage through France and Spain on the Camino de Santiago in 2015, I felt ready to start my own project and bought an old farmhouse and bed&breakfast in Igelsberg in order to renovate it and reopen it as the „Black Forest Lodge“. I live in it myself, striving to life a simple, independent and active life in close touch with nature.

Besides running, I also enjoy doing other sports such as yoga and exploring the Black Forest hiking or by bike. Reading, learning and speaking foreign languages, cooking and baking belong to my favourite activities as well. I used to travel quite a bit and still love to do it, but at the moment, I fully enjoy my role as a host at my own place and having nice and interesting people from all over the world stay in my lodge.
