The space
Charming little house on two floors in the picturesque village of Gandria with partial view of the Lake of Lugano. Completely renovated with hand-made terra cotta floors, wood stove, bathroom and nice kitchen. Fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, telephone, computer with Internet access, ironing board, bed linen and towels. The name “Casa Parrucchiere” comes from the building’s use as a barbershop 100 years ago (sign still visible on facade). The house was owned by Swiss painter Fritz Meijer (1900-1969), who used it to exhibit his artwork. Outside the entrance is a “pergola” (arbor) and table for two shaded by grapevines.

Where you’ll be

Lugano, Ticino, Switzerland

Although just 5 km from the center of Lugano, Gandria is an unspoiled, picturesque lakeside village at the foot of Monte Brè. Perched on the steep mountainside it is a community of narrow streets, inaccessible to cars, with a delightful surprise round every corner. Many tourists and locals enjoy the boat trip from Lugano and the walk back to the city on the Olive Path along the lake shore. The center of the villagee is closed to traffic is an oasis of peace with its picturesque tiny streets and stairs that offer glimpses of great views and gorgeous landscapes. The 16th century church of San Vigilio (just across from the Casa Parrucchiere) is known for its outstanding baroque interior and the high late-medieval steeple. On the lake opposite Gandria, one finds the Museum of Swiss Customs that is located in a locality known as “Cantine di Gandria” that may be reached by boat. Along the trail from Cantine di Gandria to Caprino there are several grotti, an ideal place to take shelter from the heat and to have the opportunity of getting a taste of the typical Ticinese cuisine.
