Aalto Cottage is a self contained studio cottage situated in Lunawanna on Daniels Bay. This is the quiet, private area of Bruny Island but close to many walks and attractions on the Island. The cottage is adjacent to the family home but has many trees and shrubs to provide privacy for guests. We will only interact if you require some help.

Due to the coronavirus we have taken extra steps to clean and sanitise frequently touched surfaces between reservations

The space
A single or couples retreat situated in the garden with private access and ample parking. We are situated on the South Island, a beautiful 40 min drive from the ferry unless you stop at the wonderful Bruny Island Honey shop, Get Shucked Oyster Bar or Cheese Factory to pick up some goodies on your way!
As you drive south, take in the stunning views from the neck walkway overlooking Adventure Bay to the east and Simpsons bay and the D'Entrecastreaux Channel to the west.

We provide a continental breakfast of home made bread (2 night stay), cereal, milk, yoghurt, juice, homemade jams, fruit and tea/coffee facilities. Special dietary preferences can be provided with notice for a small charge.

Two good eating places are
The Bruny Hotel - approx 6 km from the Cottage; lunch and dinner daily.
and the Bruny Winery approx 2 km from the cottage.
( lunch daily, and dinner on Saturday night).
Phone numbers can be supplied and booking is suggested for busy times. They both have great meals.

We do suggest you ring ahead at both of these places to book for evening meals.

Bird watching is very popular in our area and we see sea eagles, black cockatoos, swift parrots, silver eyes, wrens, honey eaters and many other species of birds.

We also have many native visitors- wallabies, rabbits, paddy melons, echidnas and other cute critters.
If you are staying in Tasmania for a week or two we suggest you inquire about a parks pass. This entitles you to go into all Tasmanian National Parks including the lighthouse and Cloudy Bay on Bruny.

Where you’ll be

Lunawanna, Tasmania, Australia

The cottage is situated in what once used to be a pine forest but now it is surrounded by native gardens, natural bush and fruit and vegetable cages. It is a very quiet and private area where you can see the birdlife from inside the cottage or on the patio in front. We have a beach nearby which is very safe for swimming and if you would like to partake we can supply beach towels for your use.

John and I retired to Bruny Island after living and working in Hobart. Our house overlooks Daniels Bay and we love the pictures the Bay creates. We enjoy working in the garden which is always a work in progress. We like to travel both within Australia and overseas.

During your stay

We live on the property and will welcome you into your self contained area to give you some local information on the island, its many activities and wonderful places to visit. After that we leave you to explore the Island knowing that if you have any further questions we we are happy to help. If you prefer we can leave the key in a lock box.

We have a little pug who likes to say hello and then stay out of your way; do not believe her if she says she can come into the Cottage. There are also our resident chooks... 10 hens, and 4 roosters to look after the girls!
