Raghu Niwas is one of the two houses that comprise a family owned property in Mussoorie, the other being Madho Bhawan. Built in the 1890s, the houses have been lovingly restored. Enjoy staying in a genuinely historic home where every brick and tile speaks of years of family holidays, laughter, love and togetherness. Its also an ideal and refreshing location for those seeking a short or long-term change in their work-from-home environment

The space
Raghu Niwas has 4 suites, each with its own access, that can sleep 4. The master bedroom leads into an inner room that is also a full sized double bedroom. Two bathrooms in the suite ensure that there is no crowding. Being an old house, the rooms are all interconnected and the access to both the bathrooms is through the smaller bedroom. The suites are characterised by spaciousness and airiness. A sitting room to have tea, a drink, play games or just hang around is what brings everyone together. There are many areas from where to enjoy the views - the coffee lounge on the first floor, the sun room on the ground floor, the open verandah next to the garden or the first floor sitting rooms. We are equipped with high-speed WiFi that is well-suited for videoconferencing and video streaming. Use the huge spaces to find multiple spaces to 'work from home' with the most amazing backdrops. Kitchen facilities are available so you can bring your own cooks. Or you can use the in house food facility. The total carpet areas is in excess of 6000 square feet. There is a huge garden around the house with views of Mussoorie town on one side and the Doon valley on the other. Its hard to find a place that you can call home quite like this one.

Where you’ll be

Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, India

The building is located on a hill, above the Masonic Lodge and what use to be the Picture Palace Bus Stop. The bus stop moved away about 10 years ago but continues to be a landmark. Mussoorie has two entries and the fork in the road to Library or Picture Palace is at Kincraig, 2 km short of Mussoorie. Library side is where you would go if you were going to the Academy (IMA), Kempty Falls or Company Bagh. Picture Palace is where you would go if you were going to Kulri Bazaar, Camels Back Road, Landour, Woodstock, Wynbergallen or Lal Tibba.

The entry to the mall is a 5 minute walk from the house. This is great because no permit fee needs to be paid every time you need to get into your car to go somewhere and since parking is available on the premises, access is very easy. Being so close to the mall and with the facility of being able to drive in and out at will is something you will appreciate.

I am one of the siblings of a large family that co-owns this ancestral property in Mussoorie. I have listed both the houses that we own in Mussoorie that are run as a hotel, called Hotel Raghushree. I am retired now and my daughter helps me run the place. The houses are two British-era bungalows that were built by my grandfather. I think they were built before 1900 but definitely before 1910.
Raghu Niwas is one of the houses that is featured in the profile picture and the other house is Madho Bhawan. I live in Delhi but visit Mussoorie often. I have spent many many years of summer holidays in these houses and so has my large extended family. So these are genuine heritage, family holiday homes!
