Our 420 sq. ft. "barndominum" offers a cozy kitchen and living room downstairs, complete with upcycled decor, including our vintage General Electric refrigerator, original beams and an upcycled corrugated metal (found at a local ranch) wall in the kitchen. In the rear of the property is a half-acre that runs alongside Francis Creek. We offer the best of both worlds: a spot on Main Street in the front and privacy in the back. Our barndominum's bedroom upstairs offers a queen vintage bed, a clawfoot tub and shower combination open to the bedroom (great place to have a glass of wine and take in the view of our secluded half-acre) and a small private toilet room. There is a towel-warmer on wall and a heated mattress pad with dual controls on the bed. The bedroom is open to the stairwell on right. The chandelier is on a dimmer for just the right ambience. The barndominium's original redwood wide-plank floors have been lovingly restored to their original glory. You can't even buy redwood like this today!

Our Ferndale "barndominium" is a tiny house located in downtown Ferndale, right along Main Street. It's furnished with upcycled items and is a cozy, welcoming and unique space to check out the "Victorian Village." Located behind the office of The Ferndale Enterprise newspaper, your hosts love to give their guests the "inside scoop" to Ferndale and the Lost Coast. Whether it's a quick overnight stop or you are looking for a longer stay of solitude, our Ferndale barn could be the perfect stop!

The space

Our 420 sq. ft. barndominum — recently converted from a historic barn — is cozy and unique. Its location is prime; park your car behind the barn and enjoy the best of Ferndale at your doorstep by foot while still enjoying private country views to the rear of the property. The location is just steps away from Ferndale restaurants and shops. It's a great space to nestle into, especially during winter months next to the fireplace, or fling open our wood french doors in the spring and summer and take in the private half-acre field that adjoins a flowing Francis Creek. A combo living room/kitchen are downstairs; a bedroom with open bath/shower upstairs. (The living room corner couch converts to a double bed; probably just adequate for one person or two small children. We limit our space to three people, simply because it's not big enough for four adults and luggage.) The clawfoot tub/shower combo has a heated towel bar close by. (Toilet room has a door.) Downstairs has an electric fireplace and there is a space heater upstairs. We also have a heated mattress pad on the upstairs bed with dual controls. The barndominium is insulated; Ferndale winter nights (and summer, when the coastal fog hangs around) can get chilly. At night, our back field trees are lit up by white lights and by day, deer graze right outside the back deck. The space has wi-fi and our smart television offers Netflix, Amazon, etc. (We do not offer cable TV.) Live music is available at several venues just steps from the barndominium, as are eateries and great coffee shops.

Guest access

Our guests are welcome to wander around our back half-acre property that is alongside Francis Creek.

Interaction with guests

As superhosts, we have learned that some guests want to interact and others prefer not to. We live and work on the property so we are always available to interact and, at the same time, willing to respect guests' privacy if so desired. Just let us know!

Other things to note

Please note that we host two Airbnbs on our property. Our main Victorian house sleeps five and our barn sleeps three. (Have a larger group? Consider renting both spots!) The two locations are separated by a large gravel driveway but if both places are booked, you may see/interact with other guests when they are coming and going. Your hosts also live on the property in an small apartment behind the main house when there are guests. (Also, infants are counted as guests in our listing.) We include the 12% Transient Occupancy Tax required by the city and county in our base price. If you want to work out while visiting Ferndale, the barndominium is directly across the street from Ferndale InLight Fitness gym. We have a guest key for a $10 visit to the gym. If you want to "work," during your visit, the living room's coffee table converts to an eating/laptop table.

NO SMOKING OF ANYTHING! If you smoke marijuana or cigarettes or vape please don't book our space. The smell lingers on your clothes (even if you smoke outside) and permeates our rental.

This is a lovely place. Caroline and Stuart have put a lot of thought on both decoratively and functionally to this little space. They have cared for every little detail. You will find everything from the well-stocked kitchen to everything you need for the stay.

We were working our way down coast from Oregon and came across Ferndale. Lovely little town and Caroline & Stuart's place is within walking distance to all shops. Great Mexican food at new restaurant and we loved lunch and dinner at historic Inn. The piano player was a nice touch. Caroline can direct you to beautiful beaches as well as great hikes. Their barndominium is just adorable. We have used Airbnb in europe as well as the states and I don't give a top rating lightly. They have thought of everthing for your comfort including a heated mattress pad for a chilly night! An older person might have problem with claw-foot tub, but we just loved it. The accomodation was spotless as well. I wish all Airbnb hosts were as attentive as Caroline & Stuart. Highly recommended.

This barn is so cute, inside and out it just made us feel at home and cozy! The town is great and has so much beauty around it as well, from redwood roads to the beach just a few minutes away! Caroline and Stuart greeted us right when we got there and were super sweet! We would stay here again!

Worth going out of the way for! The Barndominium is in the top 2 or 3 vacation rentals I have ever booked. Caroline and Stuart keep it sparkly -- clean, well-appointed, comfortable in every way, homey touches everywhere you look. The barn is exactly as pictured. I love that there were a few extra's in the small pantry like local hot chocolate, granola, and their own chicken eggs in the fridge. We had no trouble or extra work in getting in, or communicating with the hosts who were indeed around the property but not overbearing in any way, lovely to meet. Ferndale is a small, extra-quaint Victorian town in the middle of dairy-farm-land about 6 miles from the coast. In the mid-week, off-season there is not tons to do except eat good food, shop (check out the mercantile!), and explore the history of the town (super interesting cemetery for example). There's some really good coffee, and don't miss the Mole' at Tuyas Mexican. Anyway, if you want to just chill, come here. We loved our couple of days at the Barn, thank you both for a superbly whimsical spot!

Stunning accommodation, with fabulous attention to detail. Even the sofa bed was very comfortable with wonderful bed linen. Stuart and Caroline are attentive hosts, while not intruding in any way. Barn is very quiet, and yet only 2 mins walk into town. Highly recommended.

Caroline and Stuart's place is the place to stay in Ferndale, Humbolt!! They are right on main street with all the old Victorian buildings and shops and a few blocks from the famous cemetery. All the shops were easily accessible and Carol and Stuart were very welcoming and helpful. The house was soo cozy and clean. The bath was the best thing about it!!!! I recommend this location to anyone staying in that area :)
