"Tapawingo" is a comfortable and cozy wooded home tucked away on 3 acres of gardens, decks, pond and forest. Private and secluded. Ideal for a romantic getaway, or a place to escape the fast paced world to read, write, cook and relax. We are midway between Charleston, SC with all its restaurants, and Myrtle Beach for its golf. Bring your, boat or canoe and discover the creeks, hike in the forests or drive to one of the areas many beaches. For couples and solo adventurers, no children nor pets.

The space
You have the whole house to yourselves. This is an older, rustic two story cabin / cottage which we are continuously trying to upgrade. Set on 3 acres of forest, gardens and a pond, the house is secluded and very private. Ideal for a romantic getaway, honeymoon or just to totally relax and disconnect. Great place to read from our personal library.

The house has two bedrooms and the price is based on one couple using one bedroom. Each additional guest has an add on, with only up to four adults in total.

In today’s challenging world, we need your cooperation to help keep everyone traveling safe. While we will do everything to make your stay safe and comfortable, we need your help:
1) Please do not travel if you are unwell. Should you become unwell after your arrival, please let Frannie know in order to assist you.
2) We kindly ask that just prior to departure from Tapawingo, please gather all your used dishes; cups, glasses, plates, silverware and place them in the dishwasher and run it. Place 1 dishwasher tablet into the soap holder inside the dishwasher door. Tablets are found under the kitchen sink.
3) Please empty garbage bins in the bathrooms and in the kitchen, we request that you bag everything and put it in the big garbage bin with the lid on tight, outside the house to the left of the entry steps.
Thank you, we appreciate your extra care to help keep everyone healthy and able to enjoy their stay.

Now, back to the description...

Downstairs is a French country kitchen set up for serious cooking, with fridge, stove, dishwasher and microwave, cozy living room, the bathroom with toilet, sink and double headed shower. A large screened in porch area with sofa and comfy chairs and outdoor dining table is most inviting.

Or you can dine on the three tear open decks surrounded by our forest. On the entrance deck on other side of the house is a charcoal BBQ.

Upstairs are the two bedrooms with queen beds, one with small deck, a TV den and the second bathroom with sink and claw-footed iron bath tub.

It was here that Neal Petersen and Billie Baldwin wrote the National Outdoor Book Award winner, Neal's autobiography "Journey of a Hope Merchant" and Neal's solo around the world racing yacht is on the property.

Ride the tandem bicycle or the normal bikes to the village 5 min away and get locally caught, fresh shrimp at the local store on the dock. Dine in one of the four spots to eat, go for hikes in the forest or kayak in the rivers and intercoastal water way. Bring you boat as there are a few launching ramps (local permit bought at town office) and explore further. We have a space to park your boat trailer. So much to do, or just relax at Tapawingo and read our books.

Where you’ll be

McClellanville, South Carolina, United States

McClellanville is a small fishing village with shrimp boats and other shops and a restaurant. There is no public transportation here, but once you get here, we have three bicycles for your use as its a great place to ride bike around and to the town - 5 minute ride. Bring your boat as their is a public launch ramp (you need to purchase a pass), or your kayaks and play in the waters. The Francis Marion Forest has many roads to ride your car or bike, or just go hiking in it. There is a place to launch a boat and kayak there too.

I am an adventurer, solo around the world racing yachtsman, award winning author, motivational keynote speaker and lover of life. I live for great experiences and have helped in diplomatic issues and peace talks. Much time is spent mentoring young people including teaching macro-economics at several universities, sailing, playing in my garden and traveling the globe. My friends span all corners of the world. I have no time for drama. When visiting us I enjoy stimulating conversations and will give you a tour of our gardens explaining why I have chosen to create this environment. Some of my favorite places range from Thailand because of the great street food, cheap massages and friendly, smiling people. We love Cape Town, South Africa with its great mountains and beaches, vineyards and orchards and resilient, polite people. Portugal and Ireland are special because of all our close friends there. As a motivational speaker I have experienced many countries and cultures, enjoying the finest hotels. But we always add on extra days to throw a backpack on and travel like a local. I have had the privilege of experiences over 100 countries. I have also sailed to some of the most remote corners of our planet. Currently I am writing my third book based on our travels, people we have come to know and cultures we have loved. I will cover economic injustice, social reforms, what a civil society should resemble to how we can add to our world and create a sustainable legacy.
