Surrounding area:

Villa Akasa is in the heart of a village that is still barely touched by tourist development. We invite you to sit out on your private balcony and listen to the unique sounds of village life: the whisper of the coconut trees, the chirping of crickets during the night, the sounds of worship during the day. A short walk down the hill will lead you to the beach. This part of Kerala is geographically unique as it is the only place in Kerala where cliffs touch the Arabian Sea. The aqua green water contrasts with the bright red of the cliffs making this the perfect place to swim and to watch the sun set.

The North cliff or main tourist area is a twenty minute walk or short bicycle ride away. Here you will find some beautiful restaurants perched along the cliff edge and small shops selling curios and beach clothes. Auto-richshaws can easily be arranged for you.

Close by there is also a traditional Kerala style temple which is over 2000 years old. This temple is steeped in legend and myth and has an ancient energy; visiting it is a beautiful experience.

Other attractions of Kerala - elephant rides, house boat trips along the backwaters, ayurvedic massages and treatments - are easily arranged.

Where you’ll be

Varkala, Kerala, India

We are not on the busy touristy stretch of Varkala but in a little village a short distance away. Our beach, a short 5-minute walk down the road, is pristine and usually deserted.

Wake to the sounds of birds singing and fall asleep with the light of fireflies and the song of crickets. Let us spoil you with healthy, locally - sourced home cooked food served on your private balcony. And when you want to explore hope on a cycle, or into a rickshaw and head to the touristy spots. Or allow us to help you book an authentic Ayurvedic massage, a houseboat trip or a visit to a 2000-year-old-temple or 17th Century fort.

I have made Varkala my home, and I want you to feel the peace, joy, and bliss that this place has given to me - even if it's for a few days.

I escaped the chaos of Bangalore city and moved to Varkala to find peace and quiet. I built Villa Akasa as a home for me and my family. My sons both live abroad and this is where they come when they visit me. Every detail was built with love, thinking about what I personally look for to find peace and comfort.

I love nature and allow it to grow in abundance at Villa Akasa. The sight of green brings me instant peace. As does my gentle giant, my labrador, Yakko.

I love to cook. I take great joy in visiting the market, buying fresh ingredients and creating delicious healthy food.

I am also deeply proud of my culture and love to share the story of India with others.

My favorite travel destinations are Sri Lanka and Bali. Being close to nature and the ocean, watching the sunset and listening to the sound of birds - these are the simple pleasures that make me happy. I am blessed because I don’t have to travel for these moments, I can get them right here in Varkala.

I love to host other people in my home. It allows me to learn about other cultures but most importantly it gives me great joy when a guest leaves feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Varkala has given me so much happiness - It’s my pleasure to share this with others.
