We had a wonderful stay with the whole family. The house is beautiful and the decor fascinating. Great access to the lake through a gorgeous, secluded bog teaming with wildlife. We especially enjoyed watching the hummingbirds from the deck and kayaking.

Response from Ken:
You guys had some amazing weather to enjoy the lake. We are happy you had such a good time. The hummingbirds that you saw are the family that raised two broods in a nest right near the back deck. Hope to see your family again in the future.

This house is very close to Hwy 371 but you feel like you are in your own secluded world. We stayed for 11 nights with our 14-year-old daughter and were joined for a long weekend by my sister and her husband. There are two full bathrooms - one in the loft area and one on the main level and we had plenty of hot water and towels for everyone. The house is surrounded by a nice yard and then woods, offering a chance to see lots of birds, rabbits, chipmunks, etc. We picked wild raspberries and blueberries every day on the grounds. Nature lovers will go berserk! We brought a boat with us and found the proximity to Ernie's marina and the East Gull Recreation Area public boat launch to be very convenient. We were also minutes away from Target, groceries, shopping, etc. Downtown Nisswa, with its adorable shops, is about 15 minutes up the road. A lovely home in a beautiful setting!

I am very happy that you and your family had such a great time at Polana! It sounds like your arrangement with Ernies for your sailboat worked perfect. What an added bonus that you were here for the blueberries, I am a bit jealous :)

This log home is a wonderful get away in a quiet and secluded area of Brainerd, but yet close to all the amenities of a city. We really enjoyed the variety of birds on the property, especially all the hummingbirds. We also liked the flowers and gardens throughout the property. We spent some of our evenings in the back yard playing games, having bonfires and just enjoying the beautiful outdoors. The great room in the house is where we hung out most of the time while we were at the home. We loved having the beautiful fireplace available for fires when it got chilly at night. We would have liked to have more comfortable couches in that room so we could kick back and enjoy the fire. The chairs in the room are fine to look at, but not comfortable. We loved the large oak table for eating meals and playing games. The kitchen was sufficient and had most of the pots, pans, utensils, etc. needed for cooking. Wished we had a Keurig available for the "one cups" of coffee... There are 3 bedrooms that we used in the home along with a pull out mattress from under one of the beds. The mattresses were fair to sleep on. Overall, our experience was great! It was a nice place to get away from the city and just enjoy the beauty of nature and quietness of the woods. I would highly recommend this place for a quiet retreat.

Sandra I am glad you and your family along with your dogs had a great time at our place. It took us awhile to find the hummingbird nest that you mentioned. Check out our photos as I added a photo of the hummingbird on its nest. Also, thank you for the feedback about our uncomfortable couch/chairs. We just bought new ones yesterday to replace them to enhance the Great Room experience. Hope to see you again.

Ken and Rhonda were amazing hosts and our time in their home was wonderful! "Polana" was clean, spacious, and well-maintained. They had a lot of "extras" available that were not advertised, including toys and amenities for children, which our 2 and 5 year old boys loved. We enjoyed sipping coffee on the deck in the mornings, cooking and grilling meals as a family, watching the sunsets, making smores over our personal campfire in the backyard, and listening to the loons. This home is a rare find---you will feel like you are alone in nature yet you can drive to a grocery store, shopping complex, or activity area within minutes. We also loved that there was a picnic/playground/fishing/swimming beach area within a five minute drive. We truly felt like we had a family retreat while we were there. We only hope it will be available again the next time we are in the Brainerd area:)
