Without having to leave the property wander down to the creekside pavilion in the meadow. While the creek gurgles by enjoy a good book, listen to the rain on the tin roof, take a nap in the hammock, or build a fire in the stack stone fireplace. The sign over the driveway indicates that you have arrived at the right place.

Do you love the cool crisp days of fall? How about the blazing colors of autumn foliage? Are you looking for a place to pull the whole gang together? Look no further! With 5 bedrooms, large gathering spaces, and quiet nooks, Wit's End has what you need. Turn the kids loose to explore the gorgeous 20 acre homestead, meadows, forest and streams right on the property.

The space

Are you looking for a place to heal your mind, body and spirit? Do you need to unplug and push the reset button? Do you want to get together with friends or the whole family, including the grandparents? Sitting at the incredible convergence of 3 mountain streams in the center of the bucolic & historic valley community of Conasauga, and on the former sight of a beautiful farm, the 20 acre Wit's End estate is the perfect place to accomplish each of these ends. Designed and built in 2008 as our family's escape from the world, Wit's End has lots of places for gathering together and plenty of comfortable quiet spots to get away from the crowd. There are 5 generous sized bedrooms. Four bedrooms have a queen size bed or larger and three bedrooms have adjoining private bathrooms. One bedroom has two sets of bunk beds and one bedroom (and adjoining bathroom) is on the main floor to accommodate people who don't relish climbing stairs.

The first floor has a well equipped kitchen, with island and barstool area. It is the perfect setting to gather people together around food and preparing large meals. It opens out into a comfortable great room with dining and living area. The dining room, with antique French country table, seats 10 comfortably. The great room with game table (which doubles as a work station), stack stone fireplace with gas logs, and french doors that open onto the deck has a cozy lodge feel. The large screened porch can be enjoyed throughout the year. It has a cozy sitting area in front of another stacked stone fireplace (with gas starter) where small groups can gather for conversation or individuals can slip away to enjoy a book, a nap, or the sounds of the creek as it slips by, and birds as they sing their songs. During the summer cool breezes offer refreshment. Conveniently located next to the kitchen, the porch also has a table that seats 10 for outdoor dining. Overlooking the mountain valley and creek below, the enormous deck has a gas grill and another picnic table. The deck also hosts its own Adirondack chair seating area and fire pit.

The terrace level has 2 daylight bedrooms and a full bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a queen bed and a view of the valley below. The other has two sets of bunk beds. The lower level also has another great room with sitting area, 55" TV, DVD player, electric fireplace and French doors that open onto an outdoor terrace equipped with porch swing and kids swings. It's a great "away space" to send the kids or those who want to watch a movie.

The second floor has 2 master bedrooms with adjoining private bathrooms. One bedroom has a king bed and overlooks the valley below. The other bedroom has a queen bed and has views up the mountain behind the house.

The entire home is oriented to the great outdoors, with every room having at least 2 large windows and a view of the beautiful natural surroundings.

Guest access

The real magic at Wit's End happens outside. Guests notice the natural beauty of Wit's End from the paved road as soon as they round the last bend in the road and cross under the wooden arch over the driveway, making their way down the driveway, crossing the creek, and approaching the house by car. Upon stepping out of your car you are greeted by what feels like the Black Forest, an almost pure grove of resplendent hemlock trees. Strap on a pair of hiking shoes and more than a mile of easy to moderate walking paths await winding through the Wit's End property and connect with trails beyond our border that go for miles and miles. The property boasts 7 footbridges that criss-cross the scenic Conasauga Creek and its tributary streams. A separate & private tree top deck sits high above the creek and offers a bird's eye view of the creek and the valley beyond. In the meadow below the house there is a creekside pavilion with a bent-wood furniture sitting area, fireplace, and a Pawley's Island hammock. It's another fabulous spot to enjoy conversation or get away from the crown and listen to the bold sounds of the creek or watch the butterflies flit among the cacophony of native summer wildflowers. The pavilion also has picnic tables for dining alfresco. The property's park-like setting has additional sitting areas, picnic tables, swings, and multiple campfire rings in which to help you immerse yourself in the beauty of your surroundings. Situated at the foot of the Cohutta Mountain range, and bordering the US Forest Service, Wit's End is ground zero for exploring the dozens of mountain biking and hiking trails in the area. These trails can transport you back in time to primordial old growth forests that host some of the temperate world's most diverse plant life and carry you to pristine mountain streams, breathtaking vistas, and stunning waterfalls in the adjoining Chattahoochee National Forest, neighboring Cohutta Wilderness, Lake Conasauga Songbird Management Area, and nearby Fort Mountain State Park. The Pinhoti Trail, popular with mountain bikers, is a mere 2/10 from Wit's End. Also nearby, the Benton MacKaye Trail (named for the founder of the Appalachian Trail) forms a long distance loop with the famous Appalachian Trail. The ever evolving and growing Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-a-way is just 2 miles up the road. Shh!! It's my understanding that if you call ahead and are real nice, you might be able to reserve yourself a spot at their famous country breakfast buffet that they serve to their guests. It would be hard to find a home better situated to take advantage of these wonderful & natural amenities. The great news is that civilization is not too far away if you need it. Downtown Ellijay, with its quaint town square provides shopping and restaurants and is just 10 miles away by paved road.

We had a family retreat at Wit's End and had the best time ever. The property is beautiful and very cozy. You could easily spend a week there and never run out of new things to do. There was plenty of room for all 12 of us! We definitely plan on staying again.

Wit's End is seriously perfect for your group or family getaway! My husband and I as well as 4 of our closest couple friends got away for a weekend reunion and this home was everything we could have wished for and more! Beautiful setting, about 15 minutes from Ellijay. Well equipped kitchen with cozy living spaces and clean, comfortable bedrooms. The porches provide warm fires at night and the pavilion, lunch and games by the creek. Our Hosts were in great contact with us and super helpful! We only wished we could have stayed longer!

Such an Amazing place! We stayed here for 4 nights/5days and that just wasn’t long enough! Such a relaxing, clean, cozy, calming atmosphere !! You won’t regret booking this place! And....Having no internet was absolutely THE best! Each level of the home made you feel like you were somewhere different! And it is very well-stocked! If you forgot something, it will more than likely be there!! The creek.... the pavilion... the walking trails... the screened porch... the fireplaces... books galore... A+++ I could go on and go! We truly enjoyed every single minute of our 25th wedding anniversary, got to reconnect, read, rest, & watch movies!! (The no cable thing... loved it! We rented some Redbox movies on our way up, and watched one a night!) Thank you again John... Your Wit’s End is GREAT!!!

The mountains, and specifically Wit's End, are always calling to my family and me. While I truly enjoy hiking and backpacking, a short stroll or lingering for a few minutes to soak in creation at Wit's End can be a magical experience. Enhancing nature's beauty through landscaping…
