Within the beating heart of eclectic Thamel lives the Scandinavian design inspired Neo Modern Apartment. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen, and living area makes this apartment a perfectly safe rest stop for the energetic trekker or the casual tourist.

Adhering to all Airbnb recommended safety protocols, this ultra clean apartment boasts real wood floors, large double windows and all modern amenities for a truly relaxed experience so far from home.

The space
Thamel is the main tourist hub of Kathmandu, Nepal. The streets are teeming with life. And everything is literally within a minute of this apartment.

But that's just the start. This amazing apartment is on the third floor of a beautiful Neo Classical / Newari fusion building. The two bedrooms have two classic bay windows and so that you can observe life as it happens in Thamel without the dust and noise! It also has a spacious Living/Dining area with all amenities and a fully functional kitchen.

Our apartment is not part of a hotel or a serviced apartment. It is simply, a fully furnished apartment for rent. Therefore our spaces are generous – a precious commodity in cramped Thamel! Instead of booking two puny hotel rooms, you could spend some quality time at our 800 sq. ft. two-bedroom apartment. But be aware that because it is a tourist district, there will be some road traffic and ambient noise.

The Building
The current building (built in 2010), a neo-classical and Newari fusion, was constructed in the same spot and in the same design spirit of an old house commissioned by my grandfather over a 100 years ago.

The building is designed by Nepal's top architect, Mr. Arun Pant and constructed by an ‘A' class company. It has been designed to withstand massive earthquakes. The building suffered no damage after the devastating earthquake of April 2015. A thorough check by structural engineers revealed no damage at all.

The ground floor of the building houses four shops catering to tourists. You can buy Cashmere shawls, Kashmiri handicraft and metal crafts. I'm sure they will give you a good discount if you mention that you stay above ☺

The first floor house a travel agency, the second floor is a two-bedroom apartment also listed on Airbnb as "Soundproof 2BHK Thamel Apartment". On the third floor is this two-bedroom apartment. On the top two floors is a beautiful contemporary two-bedroom penthouse also listed on Airbnb as "Contemporary 2BHK Thamel Penthouse."

The air-conditioned bedrooms have queen size double bed, large comfortable mattress, wardrobe, study table/chair, real wood parquet flooring and bathroom with running hot/cold water, western style WC, hand-held toilet spray. The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom while the second bedroom has an adjoining bathroom.

The kitchen has all the amenities you would require to prepare any meal. It is intelligently designed to enable you to cook, store and clean in as little time as possible.

The open Living / Dining area (air-conditioned) has a large bank of windows on the west side which lets in a ton of light and plenty of afternoon sunshine. The windows can also be fully shaded by rolling down the blinds.

The real wood dining table with a hanging dome lights provide a great atmosphere to chitchat with family or guests over dinner and wine.

You can also unwind on the comfortable leather sofa and watch a great movie or catch the latest news on the TV that has a satellite connection with over 70 channels including most of the popular news, entertainment and sports programming.

We have invested in Solar Panels and large Batteries as back up to run most things within the apartment. The back up power enables lights in Living/Dining Area, Kitchen, Bedrooms and Bathrooms. It also powers the Wi-Fi, TV, Satellite TV, DVD, Fridge and almost all power sockets.

Where you’ll be

Kathmandu, Central Development Region, Nepal

The apartment building is within the core Thamel area and on the main street. It is also accessible by taxi, which is how you get here the first time with your luggage. But later we encourage you to get off at the main Thamel entrance and walk a few minutes to the apartment and take in the spirit of the lively tourist hub.

Step out of the Apartment courtyard and you're right in the middle of the action. Street lined eclectic shops, multi cuisine restaurants, travel agents, trekking agents, spas and bars are right outside.

We are a Nepali couple based in Kathmandu. Subu is an advertising and marketing professional since 1998 and owns and runs several businesses in the industry while Mala is a tourism entrepreneur. We both love the hospitality business and are very interested in interior designing. All our apartment interiors are conceptualized and designed by us using local craftsmen and repurposing many items.

We started Ananya Apartments Phase I in 2016 after converting part our commercial building in Thamel into three apartments. After an overwhelming response, we constructed our Phase II purpose-built apartment building also in Thamel in early 2020 and created seven new apartments.

We have two kids - a teenage son and a pre-teen daughter.

As Airbnb hosts, we like to give our guests their privacy. Although we live about 20 minutes away from the apartments, we are always available when required but otherwise we don't bother our guests at all. As a family, we holiday once a year (pre Covid) and since becoming hosts, we actively seek and stay at other Airbnbs.

My wife and I live offsite, but are available on phone, text and email. We will take care of any issues that may arise. Our housekeepers are always there in case you need anything.
