I don't know how this host gets so much praise for such a decieving description. Reviews play a huge role in making decisions when traveling. I had a bad feeling about Belford from the beginning.
For starters, initially when I sent payment to reserve this place, a message from Belford read that there will be a $30US charge for pickup. Now, in my personal opinion this is information that should be disclosed IN your post. I'm not complaining over a measly $30, but it's the principle.
Secondly, I arrived in DR promptly and as discussed Belford was supposed to pick my husband and I up at the airport. Long story short, Belford left the airport (Knowing he was there to pick us up) to tend to his friend who also came from out of town. 2 hours later, in the sweltering heat I'm still at the airport waiting. We ended up taking a taxi to our place. This is where he admittedly said his friend came in town today as well. Are you serious?! I'm a paying customer and I don't get any sort of customer satisfaction, when your friend is staying for free in the same place, what a joke.
Thirdly, we're given the grand tour of this place. He stresses so much on what's in the area (is markets, restaurants/bars etc.), but doesn't include the fact that the main door has no lock, our bedroom has no lock, and it includes another room where we'd share a common area and kitchen also not explained in his post. Not to mention a hookah machine on the dinner table. I had 3 currencies in my possession, and other important documents. Where's the security in this place. No safes are on this property and the toilet didn't even flush properly.
In closing, if you're into partying, loud music, drinking and don't care about your possessions then by all means stay! I wasn't looking for a party spot, I can do that for free at home. As a newly engaged and now married couple, we don't need to be subjected decieving description. He's refused to reimburse me, so I've taken this to Airbnb management.
