Located in historic Oak Park, just a short Green Line ride from Chicago, this basement studio is perfect for the tourist, family visitor or business traveler. Enjoy the privacy of a remodeled, beautiful studio while appreciating historic architecture nearby. With multiple Historic Landmark homes nearby (including one right next door), plus Frank Lloyd Wright and Hemingway homes just 10 minutes away, our 1923 Tudor is the perfect home base when Chicagoland is your destination.

The space

We hope you will enjoy our remodeled, newly furnished basement apartment. We have worked hard to ensure that our studio is comfortable, clean and supplied with all the basic necessities. We are happy to be able to offer you a brand new, plush mattress, plentiful blankets and pillows, and cozy cotton sheets.

Guest access

The studio has a shared entrance, accessible through a gate at the side of the house. There is also plenty of street parking. The studio has a comfortable bed, a private bathroom with a shower, a dining area with a refrigerator and microwave, and a beverage bar. We provide you all the comforts of home including: iron, ironing board, TV, hair blower, fan, coffee maker, and coffee, tea pot and tea, high chair, bathrobes, closet with hangers, house slippers, towels, wash cloths, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

Interaction with guests

We are excited to host travelers from all over the world and it is a pleasure to meet and greet them when possible. However, we respect your privacy and will take our cues from you. We are always available by phone, text or email.

Other things to note

Full disclosure about all the charming quirks of a historic home...
Your hosts live in the 1923 house above the studio. As is the case with charming old houses, there are some creaks and squeaks that come along with the charm. You might hear some foot steps above as the basement apartment is part of the house and not built as a separate condo. The ceilings are sufficiently tall but if you are on the taller side it might feel a little cramped. We also have two well trained and very loving dogs that live upstairs. We usually let them out the front, but be aware that it is possible you might meet your furry hosts on occasion.

Lisa was an amazing hostess. She ended up being there for me when we had a little emergency situation and I needed help packing to check out. She's flexible, responsive and so friendly!

Lisa's home was perfect for our trip for two. The space was comfortable, clean, and spacious, and she provided towels, toiletries, and coffee for the mornings. Lisa was a great host and was very responsive whenever we had questions. The space had modern decor and was in a safe and quiet neighborhood - an easy trip to downtown. Thanks, Lisa!

Lisa’s place was so cute and extremely comfortable! She made herself available for questions and was very flexible but gave us our space. The neighborhood is fantastic and safe. Lots to see in Oak Park and a short train ride to downtown Chicago. Would love to stay here again!

Perfect for our stay. Everything we needed, and not far away from some restaurant and bars. Felt safe. Great communication. I would stay here again when I come to Chicago. The fan worked but wish there was A/C! (unless I didn’t find it)

Response from Lisa:
I would love to have air in the space but AC creates the perfect conditions for mold when the space is below ground level. Since the basement is half below ground it's just not possible. However, it is usually around 69-72 degrees.

I'm a mother, teacher, and all-around-arts-and-crafter who loves clean, cozy spaces and thoughtful design. I also love old, well-built homes -- a passion that started when I lived in the Bay Area. When my family decided to move to Chicago, I took one look at the beautiful old hom…
