Le Moulie is an old farmhouse transformed by us twenty years ago into a well furnished and comfortable family home. Large rooms. Equally good to stay in any season.
Air conditioning in the bedrooms and an open fire in the lounge and wood burning stove in the dining room as well as central heating.
The kitchen is a good size with double electric oven, gas hob and fridge and dishwasher.
Adjoining the kitchen is the 'cellier' which houses the heatpump responsible for the heating and hot water. There is an american fridge and deep freeze and washing machine.
We have an airer to dry and clothes on if you don't want to hang them outside
There is a hard tennis court, heated infinity pool, ping pong, and three different terraces to eat outside - one always in the shade.
It is essential to have a car. The farmhouse isn't remote, but there is no public transport.
We have neighbours all around - incidentally all members of the same family.
The garden is huge. Both the infinity swimming pool and the hard tennis court are hidden from the house as the garden is gently undulating.
There is a pond with water lilies and gold fish and although the swimming pool is fenced, the pond isn't so if there are small children they will have to be supervised.
Opposite the tennis court there is a guest house with double bed and bathroom - so even though the house is quiet as quiet this little 'cabane' is even quieter.
A guest this summer was taking a siesta and looked out to see two small deer (bambi) just outside the window looking quite adorable.
Less than ten minutes in the car is Mugron our nearest little town. There is a supermarket open from 8am to 8pm and 9am to 1pm on Sundays. Petrol too.
There is a cash point at the local bank and a marvellous butcher and a pizzeria.
In Mugron as well as all the surrounding small towns there are always cheap lunches for 10 to 12 euros is you don't want to cook.
There are several really good restaurants in the vicinity and when you are in the house you will find a guide telling you all about them.
There is wi-fi; also for cooking outside there is a PLANCHA which is like a barbecue but is electric.
(We have a small dog ourselves and should anyone have an allergy to dogs then it would not be sensible to stay)
There are 3 bicycles but be warned - the cycling is challenging as the area is hilly.
There are raquets and balls to use for tennis
We have a set of BOULES - the french traditional bowls game and there is badminton and croquet if you want to set it out.
We have a cleaner who cleans the house for your arrival and if you are staying for more than a week she will come in and change the towels and sheets.
You will be met by a bilingual english/french speaker who will show you over the house and who you can phone if you have a problem.
everywhere in the house and garden
Interaction with guests
Cleaning help is available if required
Other things to note
there is a yellow folder in the house giving you lots of local information
we would expect our guests to take good care of the house, as indeed they would their own.
No smoking though in the house
Judith and Adrian have a house in London and our house here in Larbey provides a wonderful contrast. Peace and quiet, beautiful countryside and a good climate.
This area is a centre for all things duck - foie gras etc. and Bordeaux is not far away and the wines are excellent.(local vineyards good too!)
We have friendly neighbours.
We are Francophiles and Judith had a Lycee education as did her daughters.
We have had fun over the years furnishing the house with French furniture, although our French friends thinks it looks quite English.
