Cottage is a stand-alone building on our 2-acre property overlooking beautiful October Mountain, part of the Appalachian Trail. It is attached to an unused horse barn, which still has two horse stalls and a tack room. The location is close to downtown Lenox but very quiet and private.

The space

The cottage's porch leads to a large, open "great room" that feels very much like a ski lodge or cabin, with wide-plank wood floors and exposed beams. The great room has a dining table with 4 chairs, a cool mid-century orange sofa and 2 matching chairs and an entertainment unit with a TV and DVD player. There is also a ceiling fan for air circulation and a skylight that can be opened to allow air in and out (plus, it has an automatic shade, should you want to block the sun). We also have an air conditioner available for this room, should you need it.

Down a set of stairs is the second "entryway", off of which is a recently renovated bathroom (see pic), a roomy shower and a claw-foot tub for soaking! Also there is a recently renovated open kitchen with all new appliances, a granite counter top and a "bar" seating area with two stools. A gas heating unit sits just outside the kitchen and can be used to heat the whole place, as needed. Down the hall are two bedrooms: The first has a queen bed with dresser and closet; the second is a more flexible room, with a daybed that can be used as a sofa but also can be made up as a single bed, and there is a trundle bed underneath it - so, you can have two single beds or put them together and make a king bed. We also have a queen-size air mattress in this room (or it could be used in the living room), along with a linen cabinet with all of your bedding and towels. IMPORTANT: The second bedroom has no door, so anyone staying there needs to be aware of the lack of privacy! Both bedrooms have fairly new carpeting, and we have a window air conditioner available for either bedroom, should you need it.

In addition, we have a washer and dryer for your use.

We have one dedicated parking spot for the cottage, but the driveway is large and can accommodate additional cars as needed - please let us know if you would need more than one spot.

Guest access

The yard is large - there is a flat area with a fire pit (please just be very careful if you use it) and then it slopes down from the cottage toward October Mountain. Dogs are fine to run loose in the yard, however, we ask two things: 1) Please try to keep the dogs in the yard near the cottage, not near our house, as we have two dogs (leashed only, never running free) that will go a bit crazy if they see other dogs coming near the house; and 2) you must clean up after your dogs immediately - do not leave their poops in the yard for later clean-up, please. :-)

Interaction with guests

We love meeting our guests, but our schedule is very unpredictable, so we may not be there when you check in or even at all during your stay. But, we're always available by phone or text.

My wife and I just spent the weekend at Ted's place. A true Berkshire gem. Close to everything yet far from it all. We especially enjoyed having our morning coffee on the porch while taking in the view. We found Ted's place to be extremely clean and very cozy. We will definitely be back!

Very nice house overlooking October mountain. Very quiet and peaceful. The house was clean and comfortable. Less than a 5 minute drive downtown to the shops and very good restaurants. We hiked in Lenox on Saturday morning, went to the apple festival in the afternoon and did a bike ride on Sunday before heading out. We went out to dinner and drinks both Friday and Saturday night, excellent bars and restaurants to choose from. I would recommend staying here, we had a very nice weekend.

Thank you Ted for the lovely accommodations! The house was perfectly situated in Lenox near all the sights and within 15-20 minutes of everything we were doing in the Berkshires. The home was comfy and cozy and had picture perfect views of October Mountain. Thanks again!

This was our second time staying at Ted's place and it was better than we remembered. Very clean and well kept. We stayed with our four-month-old daughter and loved having the large, yet cozy living room and yard with the beautiful view of October Mountain State Forest to look at. Perfect escape from NYC and super easy (5 min) drive into Lenox. Also easy access to other towns in the Berkshires.

Quiet, restorative and stress free sums up our weekend. Ted communicated cottage specifics before we'd even arrived, and the cottage is well appointed and cozy. We spent an evening on the porch watching everything from turkeys to rabbits to a red tailed hawk wander through. It is minutes to the quaint town of Lenox, and we had a lovely dinner night out in Great Barrington on one of Ted's recommendations. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time.

The place was in a good location, a bit of driving for what you want to do around there, but it is the Berkshires and can be expected anywhere. Ted was friendly and accommodating and made sure the house had everything you need. The property is in great shape with a view you can't beat, perfect for relaxation and a good western MA getaway.
