Great spot right in the Financial District. 2 Blocks from South Station. You can't beat this location - convenient to everything downtown. Cool loft in an historic building from the early 1900's, a former shoe factory. In the '80's, the neighborhood was converted into studios by artists. This loft was built out by a painter/photographer. It still has its artistic roots, with the guest room itself being the original dark room converted to a bedroom. Unique!
This is one of the best locations in Boston. It is right downtown two blocks from South Station. It can't be beat. The loft has 13 foot ceilings, skylights and windows allowing for tons of sunlight, a wonderful roof deck with downtown views, and the original artistic layout makes for a very unique feel. The living space is all open, and consists of a dining "room", TV "room", reading "room", piano "room", and full kitchen which is open to those common "rooms". There are 2 huge, comfy couches. And there is almost always an in-process woodworking or junk art project, so please be open to and non-judgmental about creativity! :-)
This is downtown loft living as authentic as it gets. Enjoy the wonderful roof deck, just be careful, please. The room you are renting is the former darkroom from the painter/photographer who originally built out the space, converted into a bedroom. There is a queen size bed, and please note that on each side there are a couple of steps up to get up to its elevated platform. The room is amazing for sleeping, and watching TV/movies. But it's quite small, so it's not good for sitting. And since it's a former darkroom, there are no windows, and it's not good for enjoying the great natural sunlight the loft gets. So, guests are welcome to use the shared open loft space and its various "rooms" (mentioned previously).
The loft is the penthouse unit on top floor of the building, so it's 5 long flights of stairs, and there is no elevator. So, be ready for your exercise! If you really dislike stairs, then this is not the best apartment for you. And while the original wood floors are beautiful, they also transfer sound readily down to the neighbors below, so please be respectful of the noise level.
Interaction with guests
As the listing reflects, you are renting a private room in an owner-occupied apartment. My roommate, Jeff, owns the loft, lives there in the main bedroom in the back part of the loft, and will be there in person (we AirBnB my room when I will be staying at my farm outside the city). So, you will be sharing the apartment with the owner. I will be available by cell phone. Feel free to ask either of us if you need something during your stay.
Other things to note
This is a family building, with only 4 residential units, and the neighbors are very nice people. But they really like their peace and quiet, so please be respectful of that. These converted warehouse buildings are awesome, but sounds travels very well in them! And we recently had the front entryway of our buidling redone, and the doors refinished - please please try to be gentle with them (we're still in the "new door honeymoon stage" haha).
- Be careful on rooftop deck, and on steep stairs up to it.
- Please keep noise level down, with quiet rule after 10pm
