This 14th century stone house is situated in a calm hamlet near the village Celles-sur-Belle, in the Poitou Charentes region. It has been simply furnished and suits those seeking a quiet and restful break. Attractions include the beautiful Roman Churches found throughout the landscape and notably in the larger town of Melle, some 20 minutes away. Disused railway tracks are now bike routes between Celles-sur-Belle and Melle. The largest closest town is Niort.

The space

The space is largely rustic in its look and feel, and best suited to guests who like this kind of ambiance.

Guest access

During your stay, you will also have access to a large garden area as the house surrounding the house, which is beyond the fenced section shown in the photographs which has been erected to assist in containing small children.

There is adequate parking for 2 cars.

Interaction with guests

If I am not in the region, we will arrange a meet and greet service with English-speaking representatives, who can explain any particularities of the house including the use of the heating stoves and access to the granules, along with firewood for those wishing to use the fireplace.

Other things to note

We do not have a shower, as such, but a bathtub with a shower.

The house is available for reservations for a maximum of one month unless otherwise agreed with guests.

It is a wonderful holiday home for those who love a warm home with privacy and it has a remote feel to it (yet a bakery and a supermarket are nearby). The house is clean and well taken care of and it is old, but also modern at the same time. We loved the kitchen/diner area and the old 'bath on legs'. The garden is huge and we loved to wander through it or just sit in a chair in the 'laissez fair' part of the garden and listen to the wind in the trees. The children loved it aswell (our children love to hang about, doing nothing much). This was really a wonderful and calming holiday!

Response from Suzanne:
We are very touched that Martin and his lovely family appreciated the calm and character of the house, understanding that it loves people looking for intimacy, quiet time and reflection. Thank you Martin for choosing to come, and thank you the entire family for the respect and kindness of your message.

This could not have been a more perfect place to stay for us. We had come to visit family in Celles sur Belle and this provided us a beautiful place to stay that was a 15 minute walk from them. The interior of the house is amazingly well done while still holding many of the original features intact. There is a lovely garden in the back to eat and the inside was cool in the summer heat and a very comfortable place to sleep and relax. The caretakers were in nearby Melle and were very charming and attentive. I will definitely be staying here again if it is an option.

Maison spacieuse avec un beau jardin. Au calme. Bonne literie.
