Chickadee Cabin offers cozy and convenient lodging that is on the Appalachian Trail and just ten minutes walking distance (or 1-2 minutes driving) from Hot Springs' restaurants, shops, and mineral tubs. The perfect romantic getaway for couples who want to experience the mountains but still have WiFi and a jetted tub to return back to!

We are pet friendly with a payment of a $25 pet fee.

Please read our complete information below to decide if Chickadee Cabin is the right lodging for your visit!

The space
Just a few minutes’ walk or drive to downtown Hot Springs and a one minute walk from the Appalachian Trail’s entry into Hot Springs, Chickadee Cabin offers excellent convenience to activities while being located on a quiet street tucked into the woods directly adjacent to Pisgah National Forest.

Wake up to the birds singing out back and enjoy a fresh morning cup of coffee on the covered porch, or meander in to town on the Appalachian Trail for a day exploring Hot Springs’ restaurants, local crafts, rafting and more. The cabin is within a few minutes’ drive of Hot Springs Spa where you can take a dip in a natural-fed hot tub, or stay home for a romantic evening complete with a two-person indoor Whirlpool jetted tub.

The master bedroom has a queen bed with a memory foam mattress. The jetted tub is located in the master bedroom! In the common area are two single beds that kids or friends may sleep on. The cabin is the ideal size for two. If you are reserving for 3 or 4 guests please be sure to look at the photos and be sure you feel like you will have the space you need to enjoy yourselves!

Chickadee Cabin is outfitted with a kitchenette. This includes a mini-fridge/freezer, microwave, InstantPot (think a crockpot, hot plate, and pressure cooker all in one), toaster, coffee maker (of course!), a coffee bean grinder, a sink, a set of basic plates, bowls, and utensils, a cutting board, and knives. There is NO oven or toaster oven or stove in this kitchenette.

On the porch there is a Weber charcoal grill for burgers and veggies!

We’ve got WiFi! Zoom and similar programs will definitely work if you are working remotely or doing remote schooling. Download speeds average at 13 Mbps.

There is a 40" HDTV in the master bedroom, as well as a smaller TV in the common area. We do not have cable TV but invite you to choose from our collection of over 100 DVDs! If you have a subscription to Netflix or similar, the master bedroom TV does have WiFi capabilities to play from these services.

We pride ourselves on our VERY CLEAN cabin. Just check out our reviews!

To protect you, future guests, area residents, and our family, we are following the below protocols:

-Sanitizing all high-touch hard surfaces, including counters, door-handles, and remote controls.
-All linens are laundered and sanitized
-Mask worn during cleanings

I do all of the cleanings myself, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
My health directly impacts the health of my father (high risk), my husband, and our two young children. Thank you in advance for choosing to book at a later date if you have been in close contact with COVID or are experiencing symptoms consistent with the virus.

All linens (towels, washcloths, sheets, dish cloths) are provided. Bath bars and hand soaps are also included.

***If you are bringing a pet(s), you must let us know in your reservation message! Air BNB provides no other notification option, so please inform us in your note :)***

Chickadee is pet-friendly! Mostly we expect dogs, but cats may be welcome as well. If your pet is not house friendly (chewing, scratching, general chaos and destruction...) we ask that you kindly leave them elsewhere. Dogs that bark more than a minimum amount are NOT a good fit for this cabin. We ask that you respect neighbors by leaving barking dogs at your home. Dogs may be left at the cabin while you are out IF they will NOT bark or be destructive. The gardens are not doggie friendly and we ask that dogs be leashed in all outdoor areas. You will need to take your pup on walks for them to toilet, as there is no fenced outdoor area for them.

A $25 pet fee covers up to two pets for the entire duration of your stay. This fee is not automatically included by AirBNB in the reservation cost. Thank you for being honest and letting us know about your pet! You will be invoiced separately after your reservation is confirmed.

Yes! We do have air conditioning to keep you cool on hot summer days.

Yes! We have a remote control operated mini-split heating system to keep you warm on even the coldest winter days. Original baseboard heat is present as well for additional warmth if desired.

The cabin is on a well-maintained state road and the approach and parking is flat, so it is accessible by two wheel drive vehicles in all but the most severe of storms! You can book with confidence even for January dates :)

Chickadee shares a wall with an adjacent cabin (Goldfinch). Each cabin has its own private parking and private entrance. The shared interior wall is built double thickness (8 inches thick) with 7 inches of soundproofing insulation to provide excellent privacy.

TWO TO THREE NIGHT (seasonal) minimum stay for reservations including a Friday or Saturday. ONE NIGHT minimum stay offered for Sunday-Thursday nights. Weekend one night weekend stays will be accepted if the day is "stranded" (rented the night before and night after) or if it 4 days or less from your desired check-in date. Note that, due to Covid-19 and increased time needed to clean and sanitize, we are not currently permitting one night stays. We will lift this requirement when possible.

Where you’ll be

Hot Springs, North Carolina, United States

Chickadee Cabin is located near town and only steps from the southern entrance to the Appalachian Trail. We would guess that we are 78 steps away, but haven't actually counted :) The AT will cruise you straight on in to Hot Springs, no car required, and you can expect it to take 5-15 minutes depending on your ability level and where you are headed in town.

A three minute drive will land you at the famous Hot Springs Spa and Resort, where you can soak in Hot Springs' naturally heated mineral tubs. For a real "day at the spa," check out their massages as well!

We are across the street from the Laughing Heart Lodge, which is a beautiful building that is an old Jesuit Retreat Center and is now operated as a predominantly private events center. There are public yoga and dance classes periodically, and guests of Chickadee have an open invite from the owners to enjoy their beautiful garden and grounds!

There are other houses on our road, but they are not visible from the cabins, as we are surrounded on three sides by forest.

I grew up in the much rockier Rocky Mountains of Colorado, raising goats, chickens, rabbits, horses, and a rotating selection of other farm critters with my parents and my younger sister. I moved to North Carolina in 2009 and have spent much of my time gardening, studying wild edible and medicinal plants of the Appalachian Mountains, building and remodeling, and raising and milking a few more rogue goats. I live just outside of Hot Springs on a sunny hillside with my husband Andrew and daughters Chloe and Ruth. I love to welcome folk to Hot Springs and the surrounding area, so don't hesitate to ask me for hiking recommendations, the inside scoop on local swimming holes, or where to find homemade Appalachian crafts!
