Lower-level private 700sq 1BR apartment in a charming restored 1901 farmhouse beside an orchard. Gorgeous views of Mt Hood in all rooms. Queen bedroom, bonus study room, sun room w/ Full Sofabed, kitchenette, & clawfoot tub + heated tile. Beat the morning rush to the slopes: 15 mins to Meadows, 40 mins to Timberline. You'll get more privacy than a resort/hotel at a fraction of the cost, and we're only 5 mins to Parkdale or 15 min to downtown Hood River for evening food & fun! FAST Fiber+WiFi!

The space

You have a private entrance, and a completely separate lower-level space in our house, while we occupy the other space. You'll enter into a generous sun room with views of our yard and a pear orchard, that doubles as a second bedroom with a pull-out Full bed. You'll find extra bedding under the bench seat.

Next there are side-by-side rooms, one Queen bedroom, and one bonus Study room to relax or work. Each room has an independently controlled heater for your comfort. The rooms stay nice and cool in the summer, and look over our garden and on to amazing views of Mt Hood. We provide an air conditioner to the bedroom when we experience the 100°F heat waves, but those are few and far between.

The bathroom has heated tile floors to spoil your feet on those cold nights, a clawfoot tub and shower bench (for accessibility), and other luxury touches. We make our own natural soaps and skin care products that we'd love you to try while you're here!

There is also an ample kitchenette, stocked with some local treats and beverages, and a Washer/Dryer available for stays longer than 4 days. The kitchenette includes a mini fridge, convection toaster oven, single hot plate, and bread toaster. You'll also find a full set of flatware, stoneware, cookware, etc. If you plan to do a lot of cooking, we have a full kitchen next door and can provide additional kitchenware - just message us!

You are welcome to use the yard area near the entrance, and we hope to be able to meet you and give a quick tour on your arrival!

It's important that, as a guest, you find a well-matched host to meet your needs and provide the right experience, and we welcome ALL with open arms. That means ALL religions, nationalities, genders and sexual preferences.

Guest access

You have access to everything in this space, though we do have a storage closet off the study room, nothing exciting in there, but this is off limits. You'll also find extra blankets and pillows in the bedrooms. We will be onsite as your hosts and available if you need anything!

June -> October we will be stocking your kitchenette with produce straight from our garden. It will vary week to week, so we hope this is a pleasant surprise! We don't grow any nuts, but please let us know if you have any fruit/veggie allergies so we can prepare the space accordingly!

Interaction with guests

We respect your privacy and understand if you would prefer to do your own thing - just let us know.

Getting to know fellow travelers is a reason we love hosting, and giving a curated experience to help you maximize your time here. We live at the house as well, and will make sure you have everything you need. Joe roasts coffee, gardens and makes soap, Heather bakes pies and homemade bread. It's our great pleasure to share these with you when we make them.

Other things to note

In the winter, we get heavy snows that necessitate 4WD / traction tires to park in our private drive.

Hwy 35 and Cooper Spur Rd are heavily plowed, and we do our best to keep the drive/parking clear, but we don't want you getting stuck (it's flat, if you can get in, you can usually get out). Carry chains and practice installing them at the very least.

Bicycles and ski equipment can be stored in the sun room, though most people leave equipment with their vehicle.

No pets, or children between 1 and 12, sorry! We are working on accommodating young children, but the space isn't ready for that yet. We prioritize your safety and comfort, as well as pet allergies.

We do have a cat on our side of the house who does NOT enter your space, but if you are severely allergic, please reconsider. We can't guarantee there won't be any traces of dander from items we bring into the separate spaces. We have had many with general cat allergies stay symptom-free.

We don't grow any nuts (there is a chestnut tree across the driveway), but please let us know if you have any fruit/veggie allergies so we know to remove them from the kitchenette.

Awesome Airbnb experience. Our second stay with Joe and Heather because our first was so perfect. Gorgeous area, comfortable bed and rooms, lots of thoughtful amenities. To anyone looking for a beautiful country getaway, just two words: book it ;-)

Couldn't have asked for better hosts in Joe and Heather. Welcomed us and made my wife and I feel at home, gave very helpful recommendations to enjoy the local scene (and followed up right after with an email to recap the recommendations!), really helped us make the most of our 1 day stay in the Mt Hood area. Place itself was close to the downtown but removed enough to enjoy the quiet and gorgeous views of nature. Beautiful interior design, everything from private covered porch to heated tiles. Just a wonderful experience and highly recommend to anyone coming to the area.

Joe and Heather’s place is perfect for a peaceful time in nature. Although we ended up picking a pretty wet and rainy weekend, we enjoyed this warm and comfy place, went to a craft fair, enjoyed yummy, fresh roasted coffee and good local dining. We look forward to spring and summer time for some hiking. Ev and Tim

This was the perfect place to enjoy all that the hood river area has to offer-- we spent two nights enjoying the views from all of the rooms, laying outside on a picnic blanket one afternoon in the sun and easily popping in and out for good meals and excursions. Joe and Heather are so very hospitable, the house was clean, perfectly set up and stocked with great touches including fresh flowers, Joes home roasted coffee and a few food items. We loved our time in this beautiful spot!

Joe and Heather sure were super hosts! They provided great suggestions that suited us (especially the hiking for those with poor knees). There were too many things to taste, see and do - we will have to return for a longer visit. Top tips: Crush Cider cafe, Larch Mountain, Wake n Baked as a quick walk for breakfast or sandwiches, sunset over the Columbia River is a must!

What a wonderful stay my husband and I had in one of our favorite parts of Oregon state for our 29th Anniversary. The farmhouse apartment was very cozy, clean, full of light and well-appointed. We loved the radiant heat tile floors and claw-foot tub in the large bathroom, and the overall simple, tasteful, modern, welcoming farmhouse vibe of the whole place. The view of the lush kitchen garden and Mt. Hood from the bedroom and the sitting room was a highlight! Joe was a great host-very thorough and welcoming; from providing location, directions and check-in details, surprising us with his own roasted coffee, treats from local bakeries and a ripe watermelon from his garden, as well as offering many good recommendations of things to do and see in the area. It was lovely to meet Joe, his wife, Heather and their new baby girl, Odessa! What a sweet family! We definitely look forward to staying again soon! Sandi and Laveron Paul (Seattle)

I'm former Portland, OR and my wife Heather is former Seattle. We acted on our dream of living in Hood River after a long search, and now have the privilege of stewarding a beautiful restored farmhouse that dates back to the original settlers of Mount Hood. We love spending our days outside with our infant daughter (born July '17).

I have used AirBnb many years for work and play, I cherish the experiences I've had that could not have come from staying at a hotel. It's so fun to stay with locals and get the best advice on the best spots and activities. My interests are unique food, local craft beer, nature, and abiding by the old adage, "When in Rome...". I am a respectful tourist and try to keep my impact minimal by recycling, composting, biking/transit, and conserving water.

As a host, our mission is simple: make your stay an enjoyable and memorable one. Whether you want privacy or company, I can appreciate the needs of a traveler for both work and play, having done so much of it myself. I look forward to meeting you!
