Our lovely quaint cottage is in Downham Market, Norfolk, UK, with large pretty garden to the front of the house. It is a few minutes walk to centre of town. Good for chilling out in, cosy for couples, families, groups who like old + quirky things + don't mind a little shabby! It is quiet, relaxing with not many mod cons, a tech free retreat with no TV / wifi! There's a fridge, baby Belling cooker + microwave. The bathroom is just outside the back door, across a small private covered courtyard.
The Cottage is a lovely old 4 bedroomed house, in fact it is 2 terraced cottages that have been knocked through downstairs. There are 4 bedrooms upstairs - 2 doubles one side with one set of stairs, and 1 double and a twin the other side. Downstairs there is a cosy lounge one side and a dining room the other. It is in a great location, away from the main road but easy walking distance into the town. It is a great base for exploring Norfolk. There is a leafy big garden in front of the cottage. It has a "blast from the past" vibe, it is fun + is very relaxing + will appeal to people who need some down time. It is full of charm but is a little on the shabby side ( hence the low price) so not good if you prefer clean and shiny. It is an easy 30 min drive to beaches, also Sandringham, is near Ely and Kings Lynn.
You will be able to access all parts of the cottage, which is 4 bedrooms upstairs, a lounge and a dining room downstairs, a small galley type kitchen with small cooker, fridge, microwave; and a bathroom and toilet. The bathroom which is literally a step outside the back door has a bath not a shower, there is a basic shower hose you can fit on bath taps eg for washing hair. Don't worry about this, our guests do not find this a problem!
Interaction with guests
There will be some maps and local information available as well as the guidebook ideas on this listing, and guests are welcome to ring us to ask for advice. You can help yourself to tea or coffee when you arrive, we will leave longlife milk for this. There is also some basic things like toilet roll for when you arrive, ( you may need to top up!) and washing up liquid, salt and pepper.
Other things to note
This is an old property, please treat it respectfully! There are steep stairs up both sides, so guests need to be careful when going up or down stairs ( and be fit enough). There is a log fire or electric heaters if required, and an immersion heater for hot water. There is no central heating, no TV ( or TV licence), no telephone or wifi!! However there are tech free games such as cards, Scrabble etc, our guests find it gives a taste of yesteryear! You can bring a laptop and DVDs if you feel you might like to do that. Note the bathroom and toilet is accessed through a very small enclosed private courtyard outside the back door. You are welcome to use spades etc if you go to the beach, you will find them outside the bathroom! As mentioned the cottage is charming and comfortable but basic and a little tatty around the edges so don't expect it to be pristine, just enjoy the friendly and relaxing environment.
Please bring your own towels. Please treat our old cottage gently and be careful that the fire is used safely and fire guard is used. Just strip the beds that have been used at the end of your stay, and put the bins at the front edge of the garden so they get emptied. The cleaning fee is mainly to cover the laundry and remaking of beds so please put things that you use back the way they were, and leave the cottage so it is in a nice condition for the next guests. If you accidentally break something please try to replace - there are lots of charity shops in Downham Market! Lost keys will be chargeable at £15 per set. Note information re parking - don't park outside the other cottages up the chase it is not communal! If you are eg travelling from abroad and there is a problem bringing towels then it is possible to arrange with our cleaner for £5 per towel.
