Hi There!
We are the Mahmood family and we welcome you to stay with us in our home. This is a cozy NYC apartment nestled in between two parks on the northern tip of Manhattan, in the neighborhood of Inwood. It is perfect for the person who wants to see the hustle and bustle of the city in the day and then enjoy the calmness Manhattan has to offer (which is rare). The apartment is located close to The MET Cloisters Museum, Fort Tryon Park, Inwood Park and the Hudson River.

The space

This listing is for females and families only!

The apartment is quite big for New York City Standards. You have your bed and plenty of space to move around and hang out in your room. The amount of sunlight that lights up the whole house is probably my favorite part. I love waking up to that and the view of trees from my window. The space has everything that you might need. The room has a walk-in-closet and a dresser for your use. Guests have access to their own bathroom.

Our building is wheelchair accessible through the basement.

Guest access

You will have access to a complete kitchen with all sorts of pots and pans. We have a Nespresso, Ninja Nutri-Blender, electric kettle, dishwasher and toaster that you will have access to. I only ask you purchase your own food and be respectable to other guests' belongings. There is a laundry room on premises and we'll provide the detergent! If you need, we can provide you with an ironing board and iron. Please just let us know.

Interaction with guests

My brother and I live in the apartment. I just finished grad school at Columbia and I work on the weekdays. I am an architect and my brother is a student. I will make sure I am available, either in-person, by phone or e-mail during the whole duration of your stay. While I can give you great tips on what to see in NYC, my father can give you a better ones. He has lived in the city since the 70's and knows each street by heart. Since I love to travel across NYC, I can even accompany you on your trips if you need some guidance. Over the years, my guests and I have pinned our favorite places on a (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map, which you are welcome to use and contribute to.

Other things to note

Please let us know if you are having guests over in advance. Although we all love meeting new people, we would like some notice. If you want additional people to stay, we have an air mattress and couch and can accommodate up to two additional guests in the living room or your room if you prefer. I also wanted to mention that this is a pork-free house. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Please let us know what we can do to make your stay more comfortable.

Mayra and her family are wonderful hosts and we're extremely accommodating. Her mother offered us homemade dinner that they had just cooked for themselves when we arrived late, and although we didn't take them up on it, we thought it was very kind of her. The room was lovely and we slept like babies in the ultra-comfy bed. The space really is quite large, especially for NYC, and we felt like we had very good value compared to the AirBNB's and hotels of our friends who were also in town. Mayra and her family were very conscientious about being quiet once we arrived on all three nights and headed to bed. We enjoyed our stay very much and would happily return!

Mayra and her family are amazing hosts! I had really nice and funny chats with Mayra and her mum. She even asked her mum to put aside some of her eggplant curry so that we could taste it. It was delicious :-)! Both my partner and I felt very welcomed and safe at their home. Also, the apt is right in front of Fort Tryon Park which is a huge plus, because it's one of my favorite parks in NYC. Great for running, beautiful views over the Hudson River and home to the great Cloisters Museum! We'd love to come again anytime soon.

I booked Mayra's place last minute and I must say I got incredible value for my money. There was such a homely feel to staying at Mayra's apartment and I had the pleasure of meeting her beautiful family. The apartment is as described and is really assessable to most parts of the city, as it is just a block from the subway station. Mayra also facilitated easy and early check in on the date of my arrival and followed up with me during my trip, providing options on how to reach the apartment. Mayra was such a gracious host and responding to my numerous questions/inquiries on time and also provided suggestions on what to do and places to visit while in NYC. I hope to stay at her apartment when next I visit NYC

Mayra and her family have been the most perfect and gracious hosts. I have never had an experience quite like that at Mayra's home in that I feel I have always lived in her home as part of her family. The warmth and kindness shown by Mayra and her family has moved me beyond words. The apartment is very spacious, beautifully furnished and very comfortable and inviting. Mayra's room is clean and also very spacious, light, bright and airy with large windows allowing for ample light and sunshine throughout the day. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is clean and spacious as well. The apartment is on the ground floor so is very convenient and more like a house than an apartment in the city. It is also in one of the most beautiful and well maintained buildings in the neighborhood. The building has laundry facilities and they are new and spotless. The proximity to one of the most beautiful parks in Manhattan is like a dream. This park is the last stand of old growth forest in Manhattan and is a rarity and an absolute treasure. You are steps away from grocery stores, an amazing farmers market, restaurants of all types and the A train which whips you down to Columbus Circle in twenty minutes is one block away. You cannot do better than Mayra's location and her apartment. The neighborhood is very safe and diverse and is one of the last true examples of the real New York. With the A train you are minutes from midtown and yet simultaneously in a neighborhood which feels as if it is in the country with it's parks and hiking trails. The world famous Cloisters (owned by The Met) is a ten minute walk from the apartment and affords views of the Hudson River and George Washington Bridge. Staying with Mayra has been a rare privilege. I feel very fortunate and blessed to have had this experience.
