Sleepy Hollow, San Anselmo, California

You’re in Marin County, famous for the fabulous, unspoiled beauty of Pt Reyes and its many beaches. Our iconic county courthouse is one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpieces. Mount Tamalpais, a climbers’ paradise, graces Southern and where we live in central Marin. Muir Woods is known the world over for its awesome redwoods. Visit the uberhip waterfront town of Sausalito
The 7,000+ town of San Anselmo and equally small contiguous town of Fairfax have an abundance of quirky shops. SA is noted for its many antique stores, coffee houses, and moderately priced restaurants. In the middle of town, local man made good, George Lucas, has given our little village a cute park with two fine statues: one is a tribute to the world’s worst anthropologist—Indiana Jones and the other is of the 20th centuries’ most influential philosopher—Yoda.
Bop over the Fairfax for its vintage hippy vibe and the several bars that feature live music, usually rock and roll. Party on Fairfax!
Both towns have cool restaurants. We walk down for inexpensive, organic burgers at Farmburger or unusual pizzas at Pizzolina which are in the Red Hill Shopping center. We love Taco Janes in the center of town with its fusion of Latin foods and its Cuban influence. In Fairfax we have gone for years to Pancho Villas—a happening Mexican eatery.
San Anselmo is conveniently located between the wine country, San Francisco, and the East Bay with Oakland. The Bay Area is teeming with dancers, musicians, writers, artists and technology folks.(URL HIDDEN)short 5 minute drive away is 4th Street in San Rafael, a street made famous in the George Lucas classic film—American Graffiti. Our newest discovery is an El Salvadorian restaurant called Tazumal; try the popusas, or sauce covered thin steaks or the fried Yucca dishes. You two can have a few drinks and still walk out under $50. There are a plethora of fine restaurants up and down 4th—Indian, Chinese and comfort food that won’t bust your budget.

During your stay
My wife (Nan) and I (Tom) have lots of family and friends. We like meeting new people and enjoy good conversation. Nan is from a large, distinguished family and she has a scientific bent and loves animals and the outdoors. Ask her about her carefree days on the hippy trail in Asia. I find it hard to disguise the fact that I taught Humanities, Psych and World History at San Rafael High. I also am a piano player, bassist and book speakers for the Marin Philosophical Society where Ioften lecture. I'm especially interested in a cross cultural approach to the meaning of life.
If you want privacy we are happy to stay in the background and just be there for you if you need us.
Most weekday mornings, Nan and I are out around 8am with our dogs climbing to the top of the ridge between San Anselmo and the Terra Linda part of San Rafael. There are breath-taking 360 views of Marin and even to SF and the East Bay. At a moderate pace our route takes about 90 minutes. We've had some guests join us; it's fun.
