Had a absolutely wonderful stay at Josie and Ajay's. The home is beautiful and immaculate, with an amazing view. Breakfasts and dinners on the patio were a highlight. The bed was so comfortable and the temperature/breeze was perfect for sleeping every day I was there. Best of all, my hosts and their community were incredibly kind, accommodating, and wonderful to converse with.

My time with Josie and Ajay was nothing short of absolutely delightful. For beginners, there is a very homely vibe, you dont feel like you are a visitor but more like a house guest. During my stay Josie and Ajay had other house guests and I felt like I was just one of them. I am a vegan and Ajay and his team were most gracious in making vegan food for me everyday. The place it self is midway between Dharmshala and McLeod Ganj in a village called Gamaru. Cab ride to McLeod Ganj is Rs.150 and walk to Dharamshala is 10 mins and about 15 mins back (due to the hike up). They have multiple options in terms of boarding, I had a single room with a shared bathroom but Josie with her help keeps the place spectacularly clean. Ajay is from the area and he is an excellent resource for finding, visiting and doing things in the area. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peacful getaway in the Dharsmashala area.

I had a great time at Josie's place. On my first night there was a mela (festival) in town and Ajay graciously volunteered to take me along. It was a fun experience speeding down the hills of Dharamsala on his bike, and exploring the festival itself. Josie is also a very good cook and serves up yummy vegetarian food. Definitely worth trying!

Huge thanks to Josie and Ajay for a great stay. I came for 6 days and ended up staying for 12 ! Josie managed to re-shuffle room bookings at short notice to accommodate me, allowing me to stay in the same room for the duration of my stay which was great. Nothing was to much trouble for her. Room was cozy, and comfortable with amazing views over the Kangra valley. I particularly liked the quieter location in the village, and the lovely meandering walk down to Dharamshala through the village (10 mins). You're in the heart of the community and I always felt very safe (as a solo female traveller). Taxis are never more than 2 mins away if needed. Also had the most amazing massages by a lovely Tibetan lady that Josie recommended...if you have the time, I thoroughly recommend it.

I stayed at Josie's Airbnb for 5 nights from March 24th to March 29th 2017. I went to Dharamshala to watch the cricket test match between India and Australia. First the good stuff, the place was clean and Ajay was very helpful the night I got there. The balcony in the house has a nice view. The food made by Ajay was good too. Now the bad stuff, I had booked the Indra Dev room but Josie gave my room to another guest Rupen who was there for the cricket too and gave Rupen's room to a young british couple. I was not happy that she did this without asking or intimating me and when I asked her she said that I will be fine in the Kaali room which I had got. The room was fine, its just that it had a bunk bed and the wooden headrest and the bottom of the bed were not so comfortable for me to sleep in when I stretched. Somehow I thought I had booked a room with an ensuite but this room had a shared bathroom, I am not sure what happened there, but may be my bad, I should have paid more attention to the advert on Airbnb. Also, after the british couple left, Rupen the other guest was asked to move to the room he had originally booked but I got dragged into the conversation and to say the least Josie was plain rude to me, she has a long way to go with customer service if she wants to make a name for herself, there is no way that she can talk to people like that, Rupen the other guest will agree to what I am saying here but again its for Josie to take it on board. I just could not be bothered to deal with her. I am a seasoned traveler been to 30-40 countries around the world. The location is a bit off the main road, so you need a taxi if you are not up for a steep hike from the main town, major action was in McLeod Ganj which is a few Kms up the hill from Dharamshala. All is all it was my 3rd Airbnb stay, I enjoyed my time there as that is what I was there for but could have done without Josie’s attitude which was totally unnecessary.

Response from Josie:
Amit you arrived around 11pm at night, expected food and it began their with your expectations and demands. Perhaps it would be better for your to stay in an Indian style hotel next time with flat screen TV, rather than an holistic, flexible and accommodating Homestay. We wish you better luck next time with your AIRBNB bookings. I ran out of patience with you that's true. Everyone has their limits.

If you are after a "home away from home", this is the place for you. Josie and Ajay are the most generous and welcoming hosts, so happy and willing to help with anything. Their place is simply gorgeous with divine views, clean spacious rooms and away from the hustle of the main town (but not too far). They also offer delicious vegetarian meals and a range of holistic services so you can really just relax and enjoy the mountain air. I look forward to returning one day!

We are a mixed Indian / English couple living in India together for 10 years. We began our adventure in a small village high in the mountains called Bagsu where we opened up a small vegetarian restaurant called Tree of Life. We also had fun with a home called Tree House - a place for healing, massage, yoga and group work. we have moved our homestay and cafe down the mountain a bit... More temperate and actually far more peaceful. Away from the major route of travellers and more in a community of locals / ex-pats and Tibetans. It's beautiful! Come see for yourself and be our guest ☺️
