The space

Silva Tree-house is a peaceful, secluded tree-house on the Rumasalla headland between Galle and Unawatuna Beach, on the South Coast of Sri Lanka.
It's quiet and private, and only a few minutes from the beach at Unawatuna and the Galle Fort.
The house is a steel and glass tower that rises above the canopy of the trees. Three bedrooms on the first floor are within the trees, keeping them cool and shaded. The top floor is above the canopy and is a single, glass-sided hall with sofas and kitchen and a balcony that looks over jungle to the sea.
The house is rented on a bed and breakfast basis. Mrs Ira, the manager who lives next door, is a great cook and can provide any other meals you require. She's also an ayevedic masseuse and completely reliable baby-sitter.
We can arrange airport collections and tours for you.
If there are less people our rates come down.

Guest access

The house is rented as a whole. A watcher is on site at night, but otherwise you have the place completely to yourself.

Other things to note

Please note that there are stairs. And while the house is safe for children, it may not suit elderly people with mobility issues, or the parents of very active small kids.

A very lovely experience staying at the tree house. Wow it was amazing. So peaceful and quite. The housekeeper and the rest of the staff were super nice and friendly, always smiling. They were also very helpful and respectful. My family and I enjoyed my staying so much, and will recommend it to everyone.

Vincent's house was an amazing experience. The tree house had amazing views and rooms were very comfortable. The restroom had two glass walls which fits very well with overall house decor but may not be comfortable for some people. The house keeper, Ms Ira, was very accommodating. She prepared delicious coconut rolls for our breakfast At 5.45am because we had to leave for whale watching. Also, she is a very skilled masseuse. Overall, very good experience.

This place is what a holiday is suppose to feel like. If you can't tell by the cover photo this place is in the jungle, and that's what sets it apart. While it is secluded, 15min in a tuk tuk puts you in Galle Fort, 3min down the hill puts you at a beach front restaurant, walk 10 min (mind the speeding traffic) and you're on a hidden tourist beach with local food and beer. Tip: grab a coconut on your way back from the beach and sip it as you walk home. If none of this sounds to your liking stay in, stock up on food supplies and cook for yourself. Better yet let the nicest little grandmother cook up some local dishes for you. This place entertained three children under the age of 9 for two nights so that's saying a lot. There are a few board games packed away in the living room, though no deck of cards has 52 in it :) . Listen to the chanting coming from the nearby temple from the deck in the evening, sip your coffee on the deck in the morning and be amazed at the dozens of different birds you'll see in the canopy. Slow down and soak it in, your options are endless. Do remember you are in the jungle, there will be bugs and such but they're easily manageable. We kept a mosquito coil (picked them up in town) burning in the main room from the second we arrived and had zero issues, when I didn't light it on our last morning we were eaten alive. We loved this place and hope to return again someday soon. Thank you for everything!

This place was a wonderful base for a short stay for a family of 5. It's a unique building and the views over the trees from the top floor are special. It's very peaceful and the architecture is really interesting. The location is close enough to a variety of beaches within easy reach with a tuk tuk. The staff were very friendly and it was great to be able to rely on them for food each night. The check-in process could probably be smoothed out a bit and there are a few bits of maintenance that would improve the quality of the place further.

We loved our stay at the Glass house. It was the perfect way to end our holiday in Sri Lanka. The views were amazing and it was so lovely to be immersed in nature, away from the busy streets. It was nice that breakfast was included, Mrs Ita and her friend were very kind and helpful. They were great cooks too. We stayed over the Tamil New Year so unfortunately were kept up both nights between the hours of midnight and 5am due to fire crackers being set off nearby. The only improvement I could suggest is to replace the mattress as we both woke up with lower back pain, and maybe invest in some quality sheets and towels - only minor but I think it would make the place more luxurious and comfortable. We will definitely be back!
