Go back in time in this impressive stone mansion that embodies the history, the french country charm, and the special atmosphere that is Normandy. Located in a small village behind a stone wall for complete privacy, this former presbytère from the late 1700s has been fully restored with care for historical detail as well as modern comforts.
The first floor features a generous living room centered on the working fireplace, original Normandy tile floors and period furniture culled from area antiques shops. The dining room looks just as its original inhabitants would have known it, with its floor to ceiling hearth and rough-hewn table that easily seats 8 for dinner. The kitchen is full of charming details, as well as a dishwasher and microwave, and is fully stocked with enough crockery, utensils, pots and pans to satisfy any cook’s ambition. All of the downstairs rooms have doors opening onto the lush, carefully tended gardens surrounding the house. There is also a full bath with shower on the first floor.
Upstairs are three tastefully appointed bedrooms, each with decorative fireplace, king size bed, and embellished with antiques, curios and art. The full bath with tub can be accessed directly from the master bedroom or from the central hall. The fourth room is a soaring, double height atelier that serves as both bedroom and entertainment center. There are twin beds on both the main and the mezzanine levels. Also a television, DVD player, game table and sofa.
There is a terrific restaurant right in the village and daily fresh bread and croissants are a short stroll from the front door. Area attractions include beaches a 20-minute drive away, numerous chateaux, churches and historical sites including Mont Saint Michel and the WWII commemorative sites. Surrounding farmland is wonderful for hiking, biking, and markets featuring local cheese, dairy products, fresh produce and cider. Owner speaks fluent English, French and Dutch and will be happy to answer any questions.
