We loved it here, and felt very much at home. Thank you for being so attentive to our needs. We hope to be back. Your property is so beautiful & the weather was fabulous. Back home in Oregon it has been very cold so this is nice break.

This is a beautiful 2 bedroom 1 bath upstairs with a full kitchen, huge living room, large dining area and awesome wrap around porch all facing an amazing tropical rain forest. The grounds are immaculate with beautiful tropical flowers and trees. A separate outdoor staircase entrance allows for complete privacy. Tom and Angela are amazing on-site owners that take care of every need that could arise. They have tons of great ideas for excursions, if desired. You are only 10 minutes from the Volcanoes National Park.”

Owners, Thomas & Angela, are very friendly and inviting. Great value. 2BR/1bath. The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. There is a flat screen tv, dvd player, water filter on the kitchen sink. Soft rainwater was a big plus (after the hard water at Waikoloa)! There was real ground Kona coffee, Coffeemate powder, sugar, hot cocoa, diet soda, tea bags, paper plates & napkins. Full kitchen with dishes, utensils, cookware, salt & pepper. If you're staying for awhile, there is a fairly new gas grill and styrofoam coolers for your use during your stay. Beautiful flowers (especially anthuriums) & fruit trees outside. We stayed only 1 night to see the volcano at night. But it would be a great place to spend some time and get away from the city or resort. It is a great place to stay for exploring Hawaii Volcano National Park which is a 20-30 min drive. Grocery store (Foodland), drug store (Long's), gas and restaurants are 20-30 minutes away in the opposite direction on Hwy 11 in Kurtistown. When we visited 7-17-13, we enjoyed a cool night (down into the upper 50's or low 60's), but warmed up quickly during the day. There are extra blankets, but we did not need them. It rained a lot in the afternoon & night (which is why it is so green), but rain cleared during the day when we were there mid-July. You will be on the second floor during your stay. It is a duplex with a private separate entrance. The stairway is covered and is well lit. Large airy, covered, lanai (patio) deck on the 2nd floor. There are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen, and one with 2 double beds. All beds have comforters and are firm but comfy. We had 5 people in our party, me, husband, son (12), daughter (9), and my mom. There was room for us all. ”

Wow! what a wonderful spot. thanks so much for your hospitality and the tour of the area. We certainly experienced awe-inspiring nature-the beauty of the area capped off with an earthquake one morning and an incredible
thunderstorm the next night. We were snug and comfortable looking out from the spacious lanai at nature's show as lighting lit up the night.
Thanks for great accommodations.

In planning for your trip, you may want to consider buying groceries in town (either Hilo or Kona) before coming to Volcano as the prices increase dramatically once you leave the city.

The weather can be quite cool in Volcano due to our 4000 feet elevation, so remember to pack a few warm items just in case! There are fireplaces and lots of linens in all of our homes to keep you warm, despite not having central heating or heaters available.

We spend so great vacation at lovely house and beautiful garden. Tom's hospitality is perfect, he guide around the ground and gave us many fresh fruit. Birds and flogs crying are not problem for family. It was good nature sound and experience for 8 years old son. We want to eat Tom's apple banana again.

Merlenna doesn't own that appartment. Thomas, the owner, lives below. He is very nice and always helpful. The appartment was clean, kitchen appliances working.

I've stayed at Mountain Breeze Cottage with two friends for two nights. The experience was overall positive. The apartment was clean and quite big and the beds were comfortable. There is a covered parking that is very handy in case of rain for loading/unloading. What I liked the most was the big and spacious living room, which includes the kitchen and the dining room. Merlenna is not the owner, she is apparently the reservations manager. The host is Thomas, who lives at the ground floor with his wife, Angela, who we never met. Thomas is a nice old man who showed us the apartment and kindly gave us a package of coffee for the next morning breakfast. Being secluded, the apartment is quiet (no cars noise) but there are a lot of natural noises coming from the surrounding rainforest (birds or frogs perhaps?) that can be pretty loud. It rained pretty much all the time during our stay so we didn't have a chance to visit the garden, which looked well maintained anyway. Probably because of the high humidity of the area, the aparment smelled like mold. There is no fireplace or dishwasher (in contrast to what is written in the house description) and the wifi connection is poor. What I didn't like about this reservation is that after sending the request to Merlenna, she canceled it and she sent a special offer (more expensive) that included taxes that were not previously listed. I've booked other times with Airbnb in Hawaii and it's the first time that I see something like this. I decided to book anyway with her because I didn't have much time left to look for other accommodations (it was the day before my flight), otherwise I would have booked elsewere.

Great location, as advertised, very friendly owners. The bed was spectacular and the pillows were a little flat but I'm a very, very picky sleeper that usually brings his own pillow.

We showed up at 1130pm and Thomas the resident downstairs had stayed up to let us in and show us around. I stayed with 3 other individuals and we loved staying here. We were gone most of the day but loved waking up to sit on the porch. Everything was clean and THomas was always around if you needed something.

Thomas was a great host. He gave us a nice tour around his beautiful place and was very hospitable. He even gave us bananas picked from his yard. The place was convieniently located between Hilo and Volcano National Park as listed. The place was spacious and perfect for four. The only complaint we had was that we found couple cockroaches in the microwave and some more in the bathroom during our stay. The coffee machine was also too dirty for us to use. Our only wish was that the kitchen would have been roach free and everything would have been perfect. We still enjoyed our stay very much bc our host was great.

The directions were clear and we arrived without incident at this beautiful house on the mountainside about 20 minutes out of Hilo. At about 1700 ft the air is noticeably cooler than Hilo (whew!) although it rains a bit more. The upstairs two bedroom flat is spacious, nicely decorated and very comfortable. As shown in the picture, there's a GREAT covered lanai (with a table and chairs) overlooking the farms and orchards. Thomas was very nice, coming out to meet us as we drove up. He gave us the tour and permission to pick from the fruit trees in his compound if we wanted. The kitchen has a full size fridge and freezer that kept ice cream solid. The beds were very comfortable and we were very pleased with the whole experience. We wanted a place to hang out with family in Volcano without imposing on their rather cramped space. It was perfect because the kids could watch TV, use the internet and generally squabble while the adults talked and played cards. Even the rain couldn't bother us!
