We are an off-the-grid property in the heart of the Osa Peninsula, surrounded by pristine beaches, rivers, and lush jungle. Imagine waking up to the sounds of monkeys, macaws, and the ocean surf just outside your door. Surf world-class spots within walking distance, visit nearby waterfalls, or simply relax in the hammock, spotting monkeys and birds that call this paradise home. At night, fall asleep to the gentle sounds of wildlife and waves.
Out here, there are no high-rises or electrical lines cluttering the view—just pure nature. Often, you’ll have the entire beach to yourself, even on weekends!
The cabin is a modernized version of a simple retreat, featuring two bedrooms (one queen bed and two single beds with mosquito nets), two sofa beds, a safe, a well-equipped kitchen, a private outdoor bathroom, and multiple relaxing areas. Free Wi-Fi is available, although reception may be limited.
Don’t feel like cooking? Ask for the prepared meal options from the hosts/ local farmers’ market, or dine at an acclaimed nearby restaurant. We happily give you the directionsto hidden gems and guides that offer beautiful day excursions in the area and Corcovado National Preserve. Guided nature hikes, surfing, birdwatching, freediving, kayaking, sailing, and even whale-watching.. You decide!

You are very welcome to sit in the main garden to watch the stars without the nuisance of light pollution or lounge during the day while being entertained by the extensive wildlife that flows through the yard.
if you have a physical exercise practice (yoga, tai chi, dance, etc) our guests are welcome to use our beautifully constructed “temple” space any time during your stay.
PLEASE NOTE WHILE WE HAVE A WIFI ROUTER ON-SITE, OUR PROPERTY IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR REMOTE WORK.

This means that you are surrounded by many different types of insects, reptiles, birds, mammals and many other species. We have been co-living with them for years now, and support their wellbeing by separating our trash, working with compost, inviting our guests not to bring to much packaged food and supporting the local economy with buying local products and going on activities offered by locals.
Tricia and Iris are engaged in many community projects around the Peninsula that focus on fostering the biodiversity and culture of the Osa. Therefore, when you book a place with us, you indirectly support all these projects in the Peninsula too!
But, this also means that if you are sensitive to bug bites, you really need bring your own non-chemically/ecologically produced bug spray!

Shanti Wasi is located in the small beachside community of Cabo Matapalo at the southern tip of Costa Rica's Osa peninsula in an area of outstanding natural beauty, where dense tropical rainforest tumbles down through misty hills and valleys onto a rugged coastline of rocky coves, sandy bays and distant headlands to meet the sparkling blue waters of the Golfo Dulce and crashing waves of the pacific ocean. This is the wild side of Costa Rica, one of the last untamed regions in the country, with over 70% of the rainforest still intact. The peninsula is home to Corcovado National Park, the jewel in the crown of the nation's wildlife and conservation programs. The park encompasses one third of the peninsula and is one of central americas last refuges for the elusive Jaguar. The Osa is a place of intense biodiversity, a noah's ark of flora and fauna. Many of Costa Rica's most endangered species proliferate here and especially in the Cabo Matapalo area you will be sure to see all four of central america's primate groups. The howler monkey, spider monkey, capuchin and most endangered, the squirrel monkey, not to mention a host of other strange and exotic creatures. A staggering 426 species of birds have been recorded on the peninsula and our area is home to one of the most endangered, the raucous, larger than life scarlet macaw. At one point there were more scarlet macaws in captivity than existed in the wild. Now, thanks to efforts by conservation groups and individuals, the balance is being redressed.
