The space

Nestled in the very back of our backyard amid the cacti and bamboo, this sun-filled 1 bdrm, 1 bath cottage comfortably fits two. Enjoy spitting-distance access to UT, downtown Austin, I-35 and the MetroRail, as well as the restaurants, coffee shops, food trailers and parks of the eclectic Eastside Cherrywood neighborhood. Or just laze about on our hammock.

It's accessible through our driveway or a gate on the other side of our yard, giving you complete privacy to you come and go as you like. The queen-sized Murphy bed folds up to give even more space. Other features include a lots of window space with blinds, a large desk/table, 24/7 WIFI access, and a mini-fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. And of course, AC (as well as heat for the one week of the year it's cold here).

We're located in the tree-lined French Place section of Austin's eclectic Cherrywood neighborhood, near campus and very central. Downtown is only a few minutes away by car, bus or train. You'll have an easy two-block walk to assorted coffee shops, groceries, liquor stores, taco joints and food trailers, as well as a fair share of well-reviewed restaurants. You can hop-skip to the bus or drive in under five minutes to the nearest MetroRail station (a must during SXSW or ACL, when parking downtown is impossible).

We'll work with you on check in-and-out times. Our two large cats will work with you on any feline needs. (Though they're not allowed in the space, so if you're allergic, don't worry.)

Parking is a breeze on the street with no restrictions or permits required.

Steve is an amazing host.. friendly, hospitable, and kind. He was always available to answer any questions or to just keep us updated. All of which makes the biggest difference!! The space is quiet and quaint. A perfect sanctuary to get just enough quiet time. It was clean, cool, and comfy! Hope to book again soon!!

Great place to stay if you are in town for work or just to get away! I stayed here for a few days for a conference and really enjoyed this place. It's a nice back house that is private and a nice getaway. It's only a couple miles from downtown Austin and you can Uber, Lyft, take a train... lots of ways to get around. There are also a few restaurants and bars within walking distance. Steve is a great host. He left lots of snacks and amenities around which made it very nice. Overall great place to stay!

The Space: The cottage is absolutely enchanting. A little trail through the lovely backyard leads you to a home thoughtfully designed and constructed from the ground up. When we walked in we had homemade rice krispy treats waiting for us (delicious!) and the cottage was very clean and cared for with lots of love! The design of the space is phenomenal, with an extremely comfy bed that you have the option to fold up against the wall and close a set of shelves over if you're looking for more space. There's cool retro style bathroom with a stand up shower, and lots of interesting books and knick-knacks placed throughout the cottage to keep curious minds entertained! The Location: Right up the street from Cherrywood Cafe which serves tasty iced coffee and walking distance to some of the fabulous restaurants and bars on the East Side of Austin, East Side Cafe, Vortex, Butterfly Bar, and Thunderbird Coffee to name a few! Steve's place and the cottage itself are in one of Austin's many hip neighborhoods, so it's really fun to walk around and enjoy the awe inspiring architecture of some of these places! The back yard where the cottage is also has the perfect amount of sun and shade (thanks to the luscious, beautiful trees) during the day to keep it a comfortable temperature in the hot Texas weather. The Host Steve is one of those hosts that you will keep coming back to Austin to stay with for not only the awesome digs but for his hospitality and conversation! He is such a groovy, thoughtful dude! Checking in and out was extremely streamlined and simple, Steve is very responsive and on top of things and is very approachable and friendly. We can't wait to stay again for our next Austin adventure! Thank you, Steve! You're the best! :)

Steve's place is great! Highly recommend--it's a really good amount of space, and Steve is an amazing host. He had several small snacks in the room (so nice after a day of traveling) and gave great restaurant recommendations. Definitely would stay again if I were in Austin!!

We had a wonderful stay in Austin at Steve's cottage. The space was private, clean and in a centrally located quite neighborhood of the city. There's plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and bars within walking distance and everything else that Austin has to offer is just a short Lyft/Uber away. Steve was a tremendous host. He offered great tips about things to do in the city and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable including offering beach towels and a mat to use during our trip to Barton Springs. Also, the homemade rice crispy treats were a very sweet (and delicious touch). Steve was also extremely accommodating during check out and offered to store our bags on his property when our flight was delayed. I highly recommend staying at Steve's place.
