Getting the most out of the Messages tab

Try these tips to search, send and schedule messages quickly and easily.
By Airbnb on 5 Dec 2025

The Messages tab is your Airbnb inbox. It puts all your hosting, travelling and support messages in one place. Features in the Messages tab let you:

  • Filter messages and search across your inbox.
  • Send and schedule messages, including prewritten templates called quick replies.
  • Communicate with every guest on a reservation in one conversation.
  • Start threaded replies to keep conversations organised.
  • Edit and unsend sent messages.
  • Use read receipts to see when guests view your messages.
  • React to messages with emojis.

Filtering and searching messages

The Messages tab organizes messages into categories. The main categories are Homes, Experiences, Services, Traveling, Support, and Direct Messages

The default view, All, shows only the categories relevant to your Airbnb account. Select any category to filter messages by type.

Within Homes, you can apply these additional filters:

  • Unread displays only unopened messages.
  • Trip stage sorts messages by reservation requests, upcoming reservations, currently hosting, and past reservations.
  • Listings organizes messages by listing if you have more than one.
  • Starred shows only the messages you’ve marked with a star.

Within Experiences and Services, you can apply these additional filters:

  • Unread displays only unopened messages.
  • Starred shows only the messages you’ve marked with a star.
  • Group messages sorts conversation threads with more than one booking guest by reservation.

If you have a co-host or are a Superhost Ambassador, you’ll find these filters in the Messages tab:

  • Co-host shows conversations between you and any co-hosts on a listing.
  • Superhost Ambassador displays messages between you and hosts you’ve matched with.

The Traveling filter shows messages you send and receive as a guest. The Support filter shows conversations with Airbnb Support.

Looking for a specific conversation? You can search messages by names, words, or phrases. The results take into account any filters you’ve applied, helping you find conversations faster.

Sending quick replies

A quick reply is a short, pre-written message that’s saved as a template in your messaging settings.

Placeholders for details, like the guest’s first name, personalize each message by pulling information from your listing or the reservation.

Quick replies help you respond rapidly and save you time. Create your own quick replies or edit Airbnb’s templates to send right away or schedule for delivery later at key moments.

AI-suggested quick replies

Quick replies are message templates you create to answer routine questions about check-in, checkout and more. You need to set up quick replies to use the new AI-suggested quick replies feature.

This feature uses AI to understand a guest’s question and automatically suggest one of your quick replies as an answer. The suggested quick reply appears in the group conversation, where only you can see it. You can review and edit it before you send the message.

Using other messaging features

Other features in the Messages tab help hosts and co-hosts connect with guests before, during, and after booking, as well as with each other.

  • Threaded replies let you start a thread when replying to a message, which nests your response under the original message.
  • Editing tools enable you to edit a message within 15 minutes of sending it, and unsend a message within 24 hours.
  • Read receipts show whether guests or others have viewed your messages, unless they’ve turned off this feature in their account settings.
  • Recommendations make it easy to share your guidebook and suggest local experiences or services in just a few taps.
  • Photo and video sharing allows you to attach files to your messages to co-hosts and to guests after their booking is confirmed.
