O Instrutor de Surf
* We received the "CLEAN&SAFE" distinction from the Portuguese Tourism Institute, for the prevention of COVID19.* I will pick you up from Lisbon city center and show you the beach with the best conditions for your level. You will get a wetsuit and a surfboard, and we will get suited up for the activity. From beginners to advanced, one day or intensive surf courses. I will help you all the way, showing and explaining everything you need to know. Learn surf techniques, beach analysis, safety procedures, and enjoy a clean energy activity, immersed in the ocean. We will start with the warm up, and then go straight to theory on the sand, but it won't be long until you hit the water. I will not give a speech on the sand, just short and quick tips If you are experienced in surfing, please let me know what type of board do you prefer, and what is your level, or else I will consider you a beginner. We will surf around 2h, depending on the conditions and your stamina. I remind you that this is a physical activity, and you must follow safety procedures Afterwards we will drive back to the city, and finish where we started so you can have a well deserved rest. Other things to note The meeting point in Lisbon is always the same, next to Cais do Sodre train station
Lisbon Sunset Sail
We’ll cruise along the Lisbon coastline aboard SY Clu Race, my fancy but yet fast sailboat (Hanse 470e), the best spot to watch the sunset. Take advantage of the opportunity to chill out with friends and loved ones, feel the breeze in your hair and admire the natural beauty of the region. You can choose to relax and simply enjoy the ride or to actively participate in the experience by taking the rudder wheel and hoisting and trimming the sails. I'm happy to give you some hands-on instructions. Returning to the marina is time to chill, chat and share some stories as well as have a drink and eat some appetizers. Portuguese wine and portuguese cheese and smoked pork meat will be available! Other things to note On board you'll have free Wi-Fi and find a 4k GoPro camera, a waterproof drone with a 4k camera on the gimbal, warm blankets and a Bluetooth speaker (use of this electronic equipment depends, among several other factors, on the weather and water conditions and it's always a skipper's decision). Exploring Cascais coast & Sintra
This is the typical tour that for a long time the families living in Lisbon used to make in their weekends. I used to make it also since I was a boy. Now as a guide, I'm making it since 5 years ago with my guests in the same way, mixing a relaxed exploring of the nature with historic tales, fairy architecture and food. We take the way by the Tagus coast along the beaches until Cascais, an old village and former summer residence of the King. From Cascais to Sintra we'll go along the Guincho scenic coast. If the weather permits, we'll cross the nature through the hill lavish vegetation. In the heights we'll visit a peak with stunning views over the ocean. Here we'll find a legendary shrine upon huge rocks whose story we'll learn. Roca Cape, the westernmost point of Europe mainland is in sight from this peak. At lunch a tasty specialty will be suggested - roasted chicken, homemade french fries and tomato salad seasoned with oregano. In the afternoon we'll visit Sintra walking up in its alleyways, admiring the palaces and the charming green landscape. In a local pastry we'll taste the Sintra's typical cake "Queijada". Other things to note: This experience does not include or provide visits to monuments. Lunch is not included. Contact me if you wish to book this experience on a date not available in the calendar. For a group larger than 3 people, I do a better price per person. Contact me!

Every one should know how to turn on and off and operate the boat engine. When everyone is ready, we'll hoist the sails on the Tagus (Tejo) river and head up to the Atlantic Ocean. In between you can enjoy all the 7 hills of Lisbon from the river side, the downtown, Praça do Comercio (Terreiro do Paço), Cais do Sodre, Alcantara, Almada, The King Christ (Cristo Rei), Belem Tower (Torre de Belem), Padrao dos Descobrimentos, Bugio lighthouse (Forte de Sao Lourenço or Farol do Bugio Farol do Bugio), Forte de Sao Juliao da Barra, Seixa Palace (Palacio de Seixas) and many other POIs and neighborhoods which will be on our sight. Once on the Atlantic Ocean we'll head up to our first open sea waters bay where we'll set anchor and have a meal on board. After you can enjoy the sun and the clear waters (dive and swim or lay down on the sun pad cushions and relax). Note: this leg starting time is dependent on river tidal flush Day 2 We'll have a breakfast on board, prepare the boat for the next journey, bring the anchor up and set sails back to open waters again. On the second leg of this adventure we'll be sailing through a place which is well known by the dolphin's paradise, so the chance to watch these lovely creatures on their natural habitat is pretty high. Guests will be invited to participate on sailing maneuvers and I'll be happy to share my knowledge about sailing, knots, navigation, boat electronics and living on the water. On the way, we'll set a fishing rod and try to fish our lunch :-) By the lunch time we should be arriving to another Atlantic Ocean bay. We'll choose a place close to the beach and drop anchor. Have our lunch and spend the rest of the day chilling around enjoying the sun, the water and the views from an unique place. By the evening we should prepare the meals for the next day which will be sandwich and fruits based as we will be sailing for 10 or more hours. Other things to note The space on a boat is limited therefore you should bring only the essentials. We'll be exposed to the elements so weather and sea conditions will play a big role on this adventure. We should know how to wear based on layers and bring one foul weather jacket. I'll provide you with a packing howto. Day 3 On the 3rd day we'll wake up very early. After a quick morning coffee, we'll prepare the boat for the longest journey. We'll be 8 to 12 hours sailing. We'll see the sun rising and, luckily, the dolphins dancing again around Clu Race, our sailing yacht. Sometimes we also watch small wales. Sea birds like common seagulls will be a constant the whole time. On this last leg we'll have time to learn more details about sailing a cruising yacht and you'll have the opportunity to try it by yourself as much as you want. Hoist and trim the sails is something everyone should know by the end of this adventure. Some knots and how to handle the boat electronics, like the radar, chart-plotter, AIS, VHF radio or the EPIRB it's something every sailor should know how to handle. We'll discuss about the particularities of living and share a small space and the skipper will give feedback and tips on each one behavior on board, always on a pedagogic perspective. The lunch will be on board and sandwich based. Once getting into Tagus water, we'll have the opportunity to enjoy the other margin of the river. At the marina is time to pack and clean the boat as taking care of the boat is also an important part of sailing journeys. Still time to share personal feelings and feedback about this adventure. Your guide to Lisbon

What do locals do in Lisbon?

Go sailing

Lisbon has a long maritime history, dating back to 1497 when Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama successfully sailed to India and back in one year. Today, locals love taking their sailboats out on the Tagus River, and many of them offer boat tours and sailing excursions.

Relax over fado music

Fado is a musical tradition that is still very alive on a walk along city streets. Revelers dip into small clubs and bars, or sometimes stop on the street, to enjoy this emotive music that is best characterized by powerful vocals often accompanied by a string quartet. Join local hosts (sometimes fado singers themselves) who can show you the very best of the genre on pub crawls and in venues such as Coliseu Lisbon.

Enjoy wine tastings

Portugal is known for its viticulture, especially Douro Valley, some 240 miles from Lisbon. Closer to home, locals enjoy a day of wine tastings in the Arrábida region, where beaches, a national park, and villages offer a relaxing escape from city life. Skip the hassle of driving and book a private or small-group tour to enjoy this region with a local expert.

What do locals eat and drink in Lisbon?

Portuguese gastronomy is as delicious as its history is rich. When in Lisbon, the diverse menu goes beyond Portuguese with Italian, Japanese, and other global fare, but no visit is complete until you’ve encountered what this country invented (and/or perfected) over the centuries.

Tinned Fish

Ask any Michelin-rated chef, or food connoisseur, and you know that tinned fish is having a moment in the culinary world. But that’s nothing the Portuguese haven’t known for centuries. What was once fast food is now an art form — decorative tins packed with everything from anchovies to caviar are in high demand in places such as the Time Out Market Lisboa.

Bacalhau

Portuguese cod is a treasured dish, one that even has its own saying: “There are more than 365 ways to cook bacalhau, one for every day of the year.” Experience the customs and history of this dish, among others, on food tours that focus on the local community and sustainable practices.

Pasteis de nata

Picture this: a group of 17th-century monks making egg custards. The result? The quintessential Portuguese pastry known as pasteis de nata, invented in Lisbon’s Belém District. Try your hand at making this delectable treat in baking classes with local chefs.

Ginjinha (Ginja)

Portugal is best known as the birthplace of port wine, but Lisbon has celebrated this as its own special drink for centuries. Stop at one of many small ginjinha bars around the city to taste this cherry liqueur.

Petiscos

This is the Portuguese answer to tapas, where plates overflow with cheeses, meats, olives, and fruits from local markets. Wash it all down with a crisp glass of vinho verde.

What are the best day trips from Lisbon?

Sintra

Just a 30-minute drive from Lisbon, nestled in the foothills of the Sintra Mountains, lies a town that looks like it came straight from a storybook. Leafy streets shade cafe tables and quaint shops on your way to the colorful Palácio da Pena (Pena Palace). Here you can explore on your own, or with guided tours, to see where Portuguese kings and queens called home for hundreds of years.

Lagos

Situated in the Algarve region, and about 2.5 hours south of Lisbon by car, Lagos is an ultimate beach getaway where you can kayak, go paragliding, and take relaxing boat cruises where you might even see dolphins. In the old town, enjoy historic architecture, wine tastings, and small bites.
