Preparing your listing with important disclosures
Preparing your listing with important disclosures
Make sure your listing accurately reflects whether you have exterior cameras, recording devices, smart devices, noise decibel monitors or weapons.
Cameras, recording devices and smart devices
- Indoor cameras and recording devices: Hosts are not allowed to have cameras or recording devices that monitor the listing’s indoor spaces, even if these devices are turned off or disconnected, except in limited circumstances, such as certain listings where cameras are required by applicable law. Hidden cameras are strictly prohibited. These restrictions also apply to the common areas and shared spaces of private room listings (e.g. a living room).
- Exterior cameras and recording devices: Hosts are allowed to have exterior cameras and recording devices as long as the area that they monitor is disclosed (e.g. “I have a camera overlooking my front garden”, “I have a camera monitoring my patio”, “I have a camera that views my pool” or “I have a doorbell camera monitoring my front door and the hallway of my apartment building”). Hosts are not allowed to place cameras and recording devices over exterior areas of the listing where users have a greater expectation of privacy, such as an enclosed outdoor shower or sauna.
- Smart devices: Hosts are allowed to have smart home devices like TVs and voice assistants in their home and are encouraged (but not required) to disclose them. We also encourage Hosts to tell guests how to turn them off.
Noise decibel monitors
- Noise decibel monitors: Hosts are allowed to have noise decibel monitors in their home as long as the Host discloses them and they are not located in a bathroom, bedroom or sleeping area.

Weapons
- All weapons at a listing must be properly stored and secured.
- Any mechanism that can be used to fire a projectile is considered a weapon. This includes, but is not limited to: standard firearms, air guns, self-defence or deterrent devices such as tasers or pepper spray, ammunition of any kind and imitation firearms.
- If a weapon is in plain sight or discoverable by guests, Hosts are required to indicate its presence in their listing’s safety and property details and house rules.
- Guests are also required to provide notice of and obtain consent for any secured weapons prior to booking, and should use the messaging feature to do so.
