How do I host an online experience?

There are several steps you'll need to take before submitting an online experience, including reading the Airbnb Experiences standards and requirements and the requirements specific to Online Experiences. In addition, here are other details you'll need to know before you start hosting.

What you'll need to get started

Here are some of the key details you’ll need to know before you submit:

    • A title for your experience
    • A description, including where you’re broadcasting from and what makes it special
    • Your activity description, including a clearly defined agenda
    • Your qualifications, history, or credentials
    • What guests should bring
    • High-quality photos of your experience, including a photo of yourself speaking in front of your camera or computer to show that the experience is taking place online

Once you have an idea and these details ready, start the submission process.

Keep in mind that you’ll be asked to confirm your identity, so you’ll need a photo ID.

Here’s what happens after you submit an Airbnb Experience for review.

    How to use Zoom

Online Experiences are hosted on Zoom. Zoom is a third-party video conferencing software.

    Downloading Zoom

    You can download Zoom here.

    Recording your demonstration

As part of the submission process, we’ll ask that you use Zoom to record a demonstration of your experience. Instructions for creating your recording can be found here.

Alternatively, you can use another service to record your video, but we strongly recommend using Zoom so that you can get comfortable using it.

After your Online Experience is approved

You will be prompted to activate a new Zoom account in your Experience settings. This is a unique Zoom account that will be linked to your Airbnb experience.

This new account must use an email address that’s different from any existing Zoom account you already have.

You’ll receive an email that will take you through a few steps to set up this new Zoom account. Once you complete the process, the new Zoom account will be activated.

Note that it may take up to 30 minutes after you complete all the steps for the Zoom activation status to be updated.

Finding your Zoom link and password

You can find the unique Zoom link for each instance of your experience on the calendar, in the confirmation email sent each time a guest books, and in the reminder email sent before your experience starts.

    Troubleshooting Zoom

If you’re having an issue related to Zoom, please contact the Zoom support team. You can also find information in the Zoom Help Centre.

    How guests book Online Experiences

Guests will book your online experience on Airbnb the same way they do for in-person Airbnb Experiences. Using the Waiting room feature on Zoom lets you control who joins your experience. If a guest shares the Zoom link with another guest who wasn't included in their reservation, you don't have to invite them to join.

    How pricing works

What you charge is up to you. We suggest starting at a lower price, and then when you get enough practice and 5-star reviews, you can increase what you charge. Just like in-person experiences, Airbnb will charge the host service fee, unless the experience is Social Impact.

Online Experiences are priced per person by default. If a reservation was made for one and you notice 2 guests, you can ask them to pay for the additional person in the Resolution Centre. However, if you are open to multiple guests joining per device, you can let guests know in your description that they only need to book one spot.

You can also create a price for a private group. Private groups let guests reserve all the spots for an experience on the specific date and time that you offer it.
