When to message your host

You’re more than welcome to contact a host at any time, whether you’re booking a home, experience or service.

When it’s a good idea to contact a host

  • Before sending a trip request to reserve a home: You can double-check details about the place
  • If you have a question: You should be clear about what to expect. Just check the listing description to make sure the answer isn’t already there
  • If you want to work out the details of a service: If you’re interested in a service that can be customised, you can message the host to work out the details
  • If you’ve already booked a home, service or experience, but you need more info: You can use your message thread with your host or you can go to your Trips
  • If you need to share important info: You can let your host know if you have a food allergy or if you’ll need specific help during your reservation

When you must message a home host

Unless you’ve found an Instant Book listing, you’ll have to ask that the host accept your request to book. At the Confirm and pay stage of your request, you’ll need to include a brief message about why you’re travelling and when you’ll check in.

If you’re booking a home, just be careful not to send more than one trip request for the same dates to ensure you don’t end up double booked.

    Haven’t heard back?

Most hosts respond within a few hours, but time zones and lack of internet access might slow things down.
