My name is Tetsutaro Murata, the owner of one the most famous and beloved izakaya "Chinju no Mori" which is the restaurant this experience will take place and will be the host of this experience. I have been studying sake and sprits for the past 15years and own more than 4500 bottles of sake as well as more than 500 bottles of Shochu and 300 bottles of Japanese Whisky, Gin and Rum. It is not only the famous whisk's like "Yamazaki" or " Hibiki" but there are also other Japanese spirits that taste as good as these 2 but still not well known even to the local people.

Tetsu really knows his stuff! I was impressed with the unique selection, and left with a greater understanding of the Japanese whisky business as well as a greater appreciation for the craft that goes into making this delicious beverage. A small piece of advice to lightweights like myself: make sure you eat something before getting started, because the drinks are strong and the pours are generous. I’d recommend this experience to anyone visiting Tokyo with even a passing interest in whisky.

Tetsutaro was incredibly knowledgeable of all the spirits sampled, capable of explaining the history of each one. He was also very generous with the pours, even with the bottles that were quite rare! If I had only one regret, it would be that I didn’t come with a notebook take down notes on all the wonderful drinks we had!

Really fun and informative tasting! We sampled a wide variety of whiskies and other spirits and our host provided detailed background information (geography, tasting profile, interesting anecdotes) for each drink. Tetsutaro is clearly passionate about sharing Japanese spirits with foreign audiences and he's an entertaining and gregarious host! This tasting was well-managed, with plenty of water and some light munchies provided to prevent us from getting completely sloshed. :) Thanks for a fun afternoon!

This is a must-do for any lover of Japanese whisky. Instead of serving us the ubiquitous Nikka or Suntory blends, Tetsutaro shared with us some lesser known but equally delicious whisky like Ichiro's Malt, Fuji-Sankroku, and Mars. We also tried Japanese gin, rum, and sochu. We were a bit tipsy at the end, but there was plenty of water and snacks to help mitigate that. Tetsutaro is a fantastic guide to Japanese spirits and a great ambassador for his country. He answered all of our questions and continued to offer tips and suggestions after our trip was finished. He also has a great story too -- moving from banking to preserving and promoting Japan. Thanks for all you do Tetsutaro!

As a fan of Japanese whiskey, I knew this experience would be great. Tetsutaro walked us through 10 different spirits (most of them whiskey) that we would have not been able to otherwise come across. It was great value considering what many of the bottles we tried go for on the open market. That Ichiro's Malt was the hit for me!

I really enjoyed this experience. Tetsutaro is very knowledgable and provided a great range of Japanese spirits to explore, including a couple very rare ones. He provided very helpful context and background on each during the tasting. Highly recommend.
