What you'll do

This all day experience will last for approximately 7 hours. We will meet in town in the CBD. Then, we will take an Uber to my friend's home in Kajiado. There we will meet the women of Maasai Land. They will share stories about the Maasai culture, perform traditional dances and teach you bead making. During our time in Kajiado, you will have an opportunity to ask questions to become well acquainted with the culture and traditions. Afterwards, we will return to Nairobi for the conclusion of the tour.

As the founder of Arising Youth International, I have spent the past 5 years in Kenya working with underprivileged children. While in the country, I rely on my expertise as a Travel Consultant of 11 years to earn money. I have traveled extensively throughout the country and developed many beautiful relationships. As a result, my co-host, Valary Ominde and I have become two of the very few outsiders to be welcomed into the Maasai community. This privilege allows us open access that we are able to extend to our guests.

My co-host Valary is a Kenyan local who volunteers with the organization. She has a profound sense of curiosity that has led her to study habits of the Maasai tribe. Valary is very knowledgeable in their traditional practices and welcomes the opportunity to share this information with our guests.

Where you'll be

We will visit a rural Maasai homestead in Kajiado. The beading class will be conducted outside. The set up is quite comfortable. We use a picnic tables and a huge tent to block the Kenyan sun. You will also get a chance to tour the traditional Maasai home.

Where do I begin? This was the highlight of my trip to Kenya! The story the Maasai woman’s shared was one of resilience, bravery, and forgiveness. I will never forget her or her story. As you draw closer to the village, it’s very scenic. You’ll have a chance to dress as a Maasai woman, tour her homeland, and ask questions. I did not get a chance to meet Toronda, but I was in good hands and company with George and Valary. Such kind and friendly people. If you are looking for a unique Kenyan experience, book this and support these wonderful Kenyans.

wow! What an amazing experience. If you are in Kenya and around Nairobi- dont miss this opportunity to learn about an ancient culture, experience breath taking landscape, and get to hear the stories of many strong women. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the only tribe in Kenya still living their traditional lifestyles. Val and George are amazing guides too. Funny, kind, informative, and just awesome.

This excursion was awesome. The experience of meeting and interacting with the Maasai women in their home(s) was something that we will always remember. Toronda was very accommodating, from the very beginning of our exchange in preparation for the trip. She answered our questions and made sure that my daughter and I would be comfortable. We loved this trip and would recommend it to anyone who wants to meet and hear the stories as told by one of the indigenous tribes of the region.
