What you'll do

PLEASE NOTE: this experience happens during the day. I had no other option but to select this time slot as I have other tours running on the same day on Airbnb.
An hour and a half from the Taj is Agra's version of the Shekhawati havelis. If you haven't been to Rajasthan's famous Shekhawati region for it's havelis then, let me take you to Holipura, a small unbeknownst village which has several 300+ year old havelis owned by the Chaturvedi clan. The Chaturvedi's were rich landlords back in the day but gradually moved away from land ownership and agriculture to government services. Some of these mansions have dilapidated over time while others have 5th-6th generation descendents still living in them. During a walk through the alleys of this clean rural village you will see several artistically made mansions, some interconnected with hallways, indicating that some of the families were related and shared a strong family bond. During the tour, we will also be able to see the insides of some of the havelis owned by locals I personally know and am friends with. Post the haveli tour, we will go on a boat safari on the Chambal river to see it's unique wildlife such as gharials, turtles, migratory birds etc. The river safari is done on motor boats and is absolutely safe with me as your guide. After the 02 hour river safari we will head back to Agra, the same day

Born in Agra, educated in the Himalayas, USA and Germany, worked on Wall Street, Singapore and Dubai. Moved back to India in 2015 and now have my own travel company focusing on wildlife off-beat experiences in/around Agra. In 2014 I volunteered with the Wildlife Conservation Society in the jungles of South India and am also a naturalist in training. I am very passionate about nature, outdoors, wildlife and lesser known historical places and photography. As I am from Agra, I have strong connections with the locals living in the places we visit. Unlike an outsider, the locals give my guests and I a warm welcome which makes the experience even more personal.

Where you'll be

PLEASE NOTE: this experience will not happen from 06:00pm to 12:00am. I had no other option but to select this time slot as I have other tours running on the same day. You will be driven from Agra to:
- Holipura village - ancient havelis (mansions) built 200-300 years ago.
- Chambal river safari - river safari to spot unique wildlife and birds.
Both these destinations are an hour's drive from Agra. We will return to Agra the same day.

This is an amazing location. People living in nearby Agra thought we were crazy - "there are no rivers in India with crocodiles." We saw crocs, garials, soft-shelled turtles, and lots of birds (including some endangered species). Kunar knew all the species and shared stories about the history of the land around us.

Omg... I can't say enough good things about this day with Kunal! Two worlds in one day, full immersion... so wonderful, both stops! The village of Haveli's visit was magical... a little corner of the world frozen in time... we got to enter many of the old mansions and meet the owners or care takers. Probably some of my best photos from India so far! I loooooved meeting the 90+ yo people who don't even know how old they are... they were as curious about us as we were about them. The boat ride was magical in another way. Away from crowds, noise and messy roads... this is a clean river that supports a very diverse wildlife. My husband is a wildlife enthusiast and absolutely loved this boat outing! Our son was in awe at the huge crocodiles! I enjoyed the peace and tranquility of it all... The species we saw during the safari: Reptiles: - Gharial (critically endangered long snout crocodiles, the males have the blob on the tip of their snout which resembles an inverted 'ghara' aka earthen pot, hence the name Gharial) - Marsh Crocodile - Indian Tent Turtle (small turtles) - Red crowned roof turtle (endangered, sitting along with the big male gharial) - Indian softshell turtle (along with the crocodile) Birds: - Ruddy Shelducks (migratory from Mongolia, orange colored ducks) - Pied kingfishers - Grey heron - Egyptian vultures (white & black - sub adults) - Eurasian thicknee - Large Cormorants - Egyptian vultures - River tern - Black bellied tern  I highly recommend this experience, don't hesitate!
