What you'll do

In Indonesia our main subject is always food, even to express a notion of something taking time we say "makan waktu" that literally means "to eat time".

We're on Java and we definitely start with traditional Javanese food house (warung) lost in a village in Central Jakarta and surrounded by skyscrapers. No, it's not a warung that you find on every corner, it's an authentic and well-decorated house with outdoor seating area around a small artificial river and a bridge, indoor areas with traditional paraphernalia all around, and a great selection of food and drinks.

Later we visit a park where an artificial lake with tiny islands resemble the map of Indonesia surrounded with traditional houses from different regions of Indonesia - Java, Bali, Papua, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Maluku.

Next step will be watching afternoon sun lighting skyscrapers from a rooftop in a village that is surrounded by those giants. Indonesian coffee would be a great companion to enjoy this scenery.

The day will be concluded with degustation of traditional Javanese herbal drinks (jamu) that for centuries were used as a treatment from various inconveniences or illnesses. Don't you worry, if you're perfectly healthy you will still find something that would help you to feel more energy or be stronger. A set of jamu shots will be accompanied by Javanese delicacies.

My introduction to Jakarta started with repulsion and contempt that after some time (quite long though) turned into deep and profound love to this huge city, its residents, Indonesian food, culture and language. This place became my home, a place where I found my feet and which I grew extremely fond of.

During this many-year journey I discovered by myself so many places for food, traditional drinks, sightseeing, entertainment and other hidden gems that not many locals (even!) know about. Thus I started those small tours first for my Indonesian and foreign friends and later for travelers that have 1-2 days layovers or short visits to Jakarta.

I'm very aware of what image many people get when they think or hear about Jakarta and for this I'm suggesting you to give it a chance and turn Ugly Duckling into a Gracious Swan:)
