I am an experienced Captain in the waters surrounding Tobermory. 25 years of plying the seas among the islands and shores of Canada's National Marine Park (Fathom Five). I know the area well and can safely whisk you away to the fabulous Grotto to approach from the sea which is a rare opportunity.

Where you'll be

Only from a substantial vessel can the true magnificence of the Bruce be seen. Only a few people are privileged to cruise the lake just offshore and view the islands and striking shoreline of the Bruce Peninsula and its two national parks.

We chartered Thomas’ 30ft boat with our family on a sunny calm afternoon and it was an awesome experience! Thomas was very insightful, pleasant, knowledgeable and a great host! We’ll definitely be back next summer!

Thomas's tour is definitely a must see and do! Thomas and his family were so warm and welcoming. They were really flexible, especially with the unpredictable weather. He and his family were experts on the area and eager to answer any questions we had. They genuinely cared about giving us a great experience and that we enjoyed ourselves.

More tips

The trip to the Grotto takes 40 minutes by sea each way. Guests should be comfortable on a boat. We launch the dingy at the Grotto and guests will board it at that time, sometimes in a wavy sea. In calm seas, its fun to just jump in from the swim platform and swim over to the Grotto entrance.

What to bring

Dress for the weather. The lake is usually cooler than the land.
