What you'll do

You'll join Margaret and Karl for daily morning chores on Ten Apple Farm. We'll start by milking the goats. We raise French Alpine dairy goats, and milk 3-4 goats by hand twice a day, every day -- something we've been doing for 14 years. You'll learn how to milk, and help us feed the goats their breakfast of hay and grain. On our diversified farm, we have lots of animals, pigs, sheep, chickens, and often turkeys or ducks. We'll tour the farm, feeding and watering all the animals and talk about their care and the role each one plays on our diversified homestead. At the end of chores, weather permitting, we'll put the goats out in their pasture, and then relax in the farmhouse kitchen for breakfast of homemade scones or biscuits and other farm goodies.

Where you'll be

We'll start in our 1901 barn, feeding and watering the goats and chickens, and milking the goats. Then we'll head outside to feed and water the pigs and other poultry, touring the outside areas of the farm, like the orchard, grape arbor, and garden. We'll stop at the garden and do some harvesting and a little gardening: weeding, pruning, or pest management. We'll put the goats out to pasture, and then to the farm kitchen for breakfast treats!

En extraordinary experience. Interesting to se the interaction with the goats, and the way of living, Karl and Margareth have chosen. A nice start on the day.

Karl and Margaret really know how to host and teach folks about their goats! It was a great time getting to know the animals on the farm and the farm’s origin story. The hosts are the friendliest and warmest folks you’ll ever meet.

Karl and Margaret were super knowledgeable and friendly. We felt like we got a good sense of the morning goat feeding and caring routine. I enjoyed meeting the animals (goats, pigs, turkeys, chickens, rabbit, guinea pig, cat, dog, and Philip the sheep). Karl and Margaret were great about answering our questions!

Wonderful experience! Learned a great deal about goat ownership and small scale farming, while feeling truly welcomed into the beautiful home of Karl and Margaret. The biscuits and coffee were delicious and the animals were amazing!
