What you'll do

We'll meet at the Nightcliff Swimming Pool car park (northern side) and meander along the excellent Nightcliff foreshore cyclepath before crossing at Rapid Creek bridge. There's always the possibility that we will come across some of the area's excellent coffee spots and stop for a break. Onwards through Casuarina Coastal Reserve monsoon rainforest, across the mangrove boardwalk and around Lee Point to Buffalo Creek. Great photo opportunities for sunrise/sunset, bird life, forest and beach. Finally we will venture through some of Darwin's excellent parks on our return journey.

Meet your host, Cathie

Host on Airbnb since 2013
  • Identity verified
My name is Garry and I am a former tour guide, teacher and now university lecturer, as well as a keen amateur cyclist. My wife Cathie and I run an Airbnb here in Darwin and many guests request information about cycle touring. There are many excellent short trips which cyclists could take to explore Darwin further, but existing options focus on a small area only. My tour explores some excellent beach and forest routes and would appeal to anyone interested in cycling, nature and birdlife.

Where you'll be

The northern suburbs of Darwin has a number of hidden parks and gardens which are interconnected. Short term visitors would not know they are there.
Rapid Creek meets the Arafura Sea at Nightcliff. This is a great photo spot.
The Casuarina Coastal Reserve is mostly only used by locals, but contains two excellent mangrove board walks and dense monsoon rainforest.
A purpose-built Bird Hide at Casuarina Beach provides great photo opps.
