What you'll do

This is a 10 kilometre (6.2 miles) hike accompanied by Maisie the dog through heaths, commons, woods and parkland of SW London. The trail is 80% off-road; you are guided through natural conserved habitats that will make you feel like you are a hundred miles from the city. There is a high chance of spotting wild Red Deer and Fallow Deer along the way. The walk starts at Putney railway station (15 minute train journey from Waterloo) and terminates at Richmond Station (District Line and Overground). Within 10 minutes we are off-road and in woodland, and we continue through spectacular ancient woods and conserved parkland. We pass by ponds, rivers and monuments, taking in the trees and wildlife along the way. Coffee, snacks and toilets are available at a half-way.

John was a solid guide through the scenic woods and trails. As an added bonus, Maisie was the most wonderful and friendly dog. I definitely wouldn't have been able to navigate these trails on my own. I would highly recommend this for those looking for a refreshing escape from the turbulent streets of London.

Had a lovely few hours with John walking through some hidden and beautiful areas of London. John had some great tidbits of info on the area and was friendly and welcoming. Maisie the dog was full of energy and very cute. Would definitely recommend to those who love a good walk or just want to see a bit more of London.

This being our 4th annual trip to London, we were looking to do something different. As dog lovers and walking enthusiasts, the hiking experience offered by John ticked all the boxes for us. Meeting up with and Maisie was very convenient and while John had a rather fast pace, he was kind to slow down to match our shorter strides. We spent an enjoyable 3 hours with him and Maisie (who happened to be one of the most well trained and obedient dogs we’ve met) :) John helpfully pointed out the different types of trees we came across on the route and the highlight had to be the herd of wild deer we saw in Richmond Park. Overall we had a good “workout” while getting to feast our eyes on the beautiful scenery in the company of our friendly host and adorable Maisie. Definitely recommended for someone who’s fatigued by the hustle and bustle of London city

I had a great time with John, he had unique experience of the the area we walked together. It was a wonderful walk away from the city noise to the heart of the woods visiting several green areas and forests. What made it more special that the walk was carefully planned to see ponds areas, deers, thames river and Richmond town. The walk was in Avery quite areas where it is not known by other visitors and tourists. It was nice to accompany John and we had a nice conversation along the 3 hours we spent together. In brief, it was one of my best experiences in London.
