What you'll do

This experience opens for you the doors of London's tiny bohemian apiary where you can inspect a beehive, peep into the inner workings of bees in an observation hive, discover different types of hives - from Warre to top bar to what's called national standard, interact with different species of bees, and discover the tastes of honey from our unique international collection. In this experience, our head beekeeper Ali will give you a full on introduction to the world of bees and ethical beekeeping, then we offer you the chance to gear up and join us in a hive inspection in our tiny apiary

A honey tasting session in our bohemian garden and ending with some beer, wine or herbal tea with the distant sound of buzzing.

Proceeds from this experience will go to support our initiative Bees and Refugees.

I'm the founder of Bees & Refugees initiative. After 20 years of supply chain and fashion management, I fell in love with bees, so I left the world of luxury fashion and became a full-time beekeeper! I took a ton of training, volunteered with mentors, got involved with local beekeeping organisation. I am currently running a 25 beehives project to offer raw honey to the community as response to Covid-19.

By buying this experience you're supporting a local initiative that aims to provide workshops for local refugees in Beekeeping and hive making & queen rearing methods.

I booked this experience for my birthday and couldn't have enjoyed myself more! Ali is very passionate about beekeeping and I've learnt quite a few surprising facts about bees that day (thanks again Ali!). The hands-on experience is unmatched! Highly recommended.

Ali is a really friendly, welcoming host who is passionate about ethical beekeeping. We were given protective suits that kept us extremely safe from bee stings and were able to have hands-on experience with the hive. We also got to see the queen bee, taste different types of honey and had a truly eye-opening experience which changed our perspective on beekeeping 🐝🍯

Ali was the perfect host, friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about bees. I was able to get hands-on with the hive and actively participate while Ali took photos and explained the different things we saw. Tasting honey straight from the hive was amazing and I've got friends wanting to come and have a go.

We had a wonderful time at Ali's house. He was friendly and welcoming, and very knowledgeable about bees. Before I went I knew nothing about bees and now I want to set up my own hive! It's great fun wearing the bee suits and getting hands-on.

Ali is a light, warm, generous and knowledgeable host. He is passionate about bees and keeps them in a beautiful small garden full of vegetables; a refreshing escape of the busy London. It’s a nice introduction to beekeeping that starts with a “Bees 101” short intro and ends with honey tasting with local, African and middle eastern types. It was a lovely experience!

More tips

Please be aware that we might have to delay opening the hive if it's raining, last thing we want is to harm or cause any stress to these little beautiful creatures.

Protective clothing to layer such as full length pants, long sleeved shirts and closed toe shoes. Don't worry, we will also have plenty of beekeeping equipment (suit and gloves) for you to wear! I will provide bottled water but you might bring your own.
