What you'll do

I'll show you round Porthleven from a local's perspective and share the history of this fascinating place as well as showing you some of the best photo spots and a few hidden gems. I promise you'll discover a few things you never knew about our beautiful village (no one here calls it a town - even though it really is by size!) and a few places you'll want to re-visit.

Each tour will be tailored to the group I am leading - so from the best Instagram spots, to the history of Porthleven, to the best places to eat and visit, you'll get the information you're looking for. And it's not just confined to the Harbour - we'll explore places further afield, giving you ideas for other local excursions.

Bring a camera or mobile phone to capture some lasting memories of your visit.

I'm a writer and local history lover who's written the Porthleven and Helston Heritage trails. I live in the local community and work on local events including Porthleven Food Festival and several of Porthleven's restaurants. I've written reviews for Cornwall Food & Drink and am knowledgeable about the local food scene both in Porthleven and further afield. I've lived in my community for ten years and know many of the local people, business owners and hidden spots. I'm also on the working party to restore Porthleven's historic clocktower, the Bickford-Smith Institute and have conducted a lot of research into the building. You'll also sometimes find me swimming in the harbour as my alter ego the Porthleven mermaid - do pop in and join me!

Where you'll be

We'll visit off-the-beaten track pubs as well as exploring the history and present of buildings around the harbour including the Bickford-Smith Institute (it's not a church!). We'll stop for refreshments on the way at the new Mussel Shoal overlooking the harbour. Then we'll pop up to the Wrestling Fields for amazing clifftop views over Mount's Bay on the South West Coast path before visiting a pub that showcases Porthleven's heritage.
