What you'll do
Our meeting point will be at galleria mall. From galleria mall, inorder for you to have an experience with the Kenyan culture, we will use a PSV. We will board a matatu at the bus stop which is opposite the galleria mall. The matatu will take us on Magadi road on our way to masai lodge bus stop. We will alight at the masai lodge bus stop and board a tuk tuk which will take us to our final destination nearer the workshop. We will then alight at AIC Diguna bus stop and take a stroll from there. The stroll will take us probably close to 10 minutes. The scenery is great and you will have a breath of fresh air. Once we arrive at the Sikia Sasa Design office, you will be introduced to the artisans who will teach you the basics of Kenyan Sign Language. One of the most expressive forms of communication. You will then pair up with an artisan for a one-on-one lesson on making a beautiful beaded bracelet using the color and style of your choosing. After wards, we'll conclude over a local snack of mandazi and tea while we reflect on our time together. We also welcome people with hearing disabilities to come and have this experience.
I am the workshop manager at Sikia Sasa Designs. It is an organization that focuses on empowering hearing impaired women both financially and skillfully. I have been working as the workshop manager for 4 years now. I love working with the lovely ladies because it brings a sense of joy and fulfillment. Being able to meet the need of a certain group that has been stigmatized for the longest time is one of my passions. Many of the women working with us are single mothers from poor families. They are now able to support their children and families as well as themselves. The ladies enjoy sharing their attained skills and teaching people their beautiful language. This is why we decided to have this experience.
