What you'll do
I will start off by explaining interesting facts about these fascinating little creatures called honey bees. You will learn about the different parts of a Langstroth bee hive and how we eventually get our honey from the hive. After talking about bees for a bit we will light a smoker which is used to mask bee alarm pheromone and helps to keep bees calm. Then we will walk over to the apiary and open a hive to observe the busy bees at work. Everyone will wear a protective beekeeper jacket and gloves and learn about appropriate apiary etiquette. You will have the opportunity to hold a frame and observe the honey bees up close. This is where we will see the different types of honey bees in the hive and possibly witness baby bees emerging from a cell in the comb. And if we're lucky, we might even see the queen !

I am one of the luckiest people in the world who for the last 5 years has managed our 12-16 bee hives (apiary). I get to spend time with these honey bees using natural beekeeping techniques that produces some of the best tasting honey. Besides beekeeping, my other passion is gardening which means growing fresh veggies, unique fruits and especially bee and butterfly friendly flowers at our Florida Bee Farm. Florida Bee Farm is completely solar powered and on a private little piece of land at the end of a dirt road.

Where you'll be
We'll start off sitting under a beautiful Banyan tree which is rare for this part of Florida. That is where we'll learn some interesting facts about honey bees. Next we'll be in the apiary or bee hive area which about 50' away. And finally we'll wrap it up back under the Banyan tree and possibly a walk in the gardens to see what's blooming and to observe the many bees moving among the flowers we grow. All outdoors
