What you'll do

You will be cooking with me in my own kitchen where you'll get to make fried plantains( BannannPeze), Haitian patties( paté) and some spicy coleslaw( pikliz) just like we make it back in Haiti. Now because fixing the filling for the patties is a bit time consuming, it will be made in advance. You'll just roll and stuff the dough.
Throughout the activities you're welcome to ask questions about the items you're making, my family and I, or about Haitian culture as a whole.
Keep in mind, the time limit for the activities depends on how many participants and how much of each item we are making . But generally, a couple hours is enough to dive in, get your hands dirty and your belly full.

Meet your host, Martine

My husband and I are the proud owners of Chez Matou Catering, LLC here in Junction City, KS.
We are the first as and only place that offer a taste of Haiti to the Junction City, and nearby areas.
I'm the executive chef of Chez Matou and have been cooking authentic Haitian food for roughly 20 years. I have lived in Junction City for ten years, and many locals know about my cooking skills because I've participated in Juneteenth celebrations for 3 years in JC, 2 years in Flint Hills Praisefest in Manhattan, the first Taste of JC event that took place on June 15th 2019, and I have fed many soldiers and their families on Fort Riley,ks.
I'm very proud of the Haitian cuisine and want to cease any opportunity to share it with those unfamiliar with it, or those who've had a chance to experience it once and want to do so again. It'll be worth it!

What to bring

It's a good idea to bring your own apron, food handling gloves and hairnet as I am providing everything you need for your cooking experience.

Please wear closed-toed and skid skidfree shoes for safety.
