What you'll do

Meeting- and ending point is Danmarksplass.

Our goal is hiking the gorgeous mountain Løvstakken, which offer a 360 degree view over the city. It has the best view in Bergen.

We will start the hike going up to the new gravel trail Løvstien and follow it to a little path going into the wildernes. The trail is steep and will get us to a fir forest with a cozy creek. The hike continues in rocky scenery to a cairn with a wind arrow on the mountain top.

On the summit we will enjoy the view of the city center and harbor before we visit a nice landmark (a heart-monument) and a rock silhouette looking very much like a face. Great stuff.

There is also a cabin with an outdoor bench on the summit. Here we will enjoy a rest with some well deserved snacks and coffee before we visit the other summitside to enjoy the view on the other side. Let's see if you can spot the royal castle or the airport.

We will return home on another trail, the famous 7-mountain-hike-route (to see as much as possible during the hike) and visit a lovely viewpoint on the way (it has a flagpole visible from downtown). The last stop will be at a cozy shelter to enjoy the view of the Bergen valley and the mountains Fløyen and Ulriken.

Towards the end we will pass the iconic landmark "Jesus-stone".

The hike will take around 4 hours.

Bergen is famous for its 7 mountains and I love spending time hiking them.
For recreation, racing, photographing or just berry-picking.

Being a local and living on the mountainside I know Løvstakken and its many tracks very well.

I will bring some free Norwegian chocolate and hot coffee. It's always nice getting some fresh energy on the mountain top. If you want I will send you free copys of images from the hike (using camera or phone depending on the weather).

Where you'll be

Løvstakken is one of the Seven Mountains that surround the center of the city of Bergen in Hordaland county, Norway. The 477-metre (1,565 ft) tall mountain is located between the Fyllingsdalen and Bergensdalen valleys on the Bergen Peninsula.

Løvstakken and the forests nearby are popular hiking areas among the locals since it is essentially located in the central area of Norway's second largest city.

Très bon guide qui connaissait des chemins peu pratiqués avec de très beaux points de vue pour faire de belles photos de la baie de Bergen.

Reading other reviews seems like everybody has a rainy hike with Johan. 😉 Seriously: the bad weather stopped after 10 minutes and so it was a peaceful hike and enjoying the private atmosphere when on top because there was nobody else. We mostly went paths I would not have discovered on my own and alone I would not have done that. For that hike you need to have good shoes. Regular sport shoes won’t do it.

This hike goes through some of the less frequented trails in the hills surrounding Bergen. The hiking experience was very enjoyable and offered some gratifying challenges. The views were spectacular. Johan is a very experienced guide and modified the route to accommodate both the weather conditions and capabilities of the participants in the hike. The level of challenge for part of the trail could be classified as moderately rugged, on the scale used by National and State Parks in the USA. The only human interventions into the trails were a few planks over muddy areas. During the trek, Johan shared with us some stories about local area as well as about regional differences in Norway.

Very nice experience in the nature of Bergen. The hike was pleasant and quit diversified, first in the wood and then in the mountains. Johan was attentive and motivating, despite it was raining. We recommend that hike!
